I dont think BF2 or any games are close to an authentic war zone. They are full of gameisms. Like people standing in the open firing. Being perfectly accurate, when moving. Snipers are able to use rifles standing with perfect aim.

With vehicles they are more unbalanced than they would be in real life. You cant get lucky shots, which take out systems. Basically if you hit a chopper with one bullet then they would get the hell out of there unless the mission is really important. They arent bullet proof at all.

You jump into them and you are invulnerable (for the most part). You jump in and out instantly, no set up time almost. Infinite bullets perfect, targetting etc(allies are cleary indicated).

There no where near close to making it a combat sym. I just think they should be clear about what they are doing. Lots of unbalanced things and problems would go away if they really made it a sim.

I dont have anything against vehicles as long as they keep them balanced and forget real world emulation.

Team Fortress 2 is the obvious example of a balanced infantry shooter.

Its probably all moot anyway as vehicles do usually fall quite easily in Bad Company2. Except for in the large map areas and I've heard that the vehicles are more armoured and powerfull.

Also another thing they never take into account how the majority of the game will be played. Clans have to come up with all manner of rules to make it balanced and seemingly fairer. In random matches they give all the means and advantages to the few to be able to troll the many.

Sounds like you need to play arma 2 not Battlefield then, personally I have done infantry combat to death from years of gaming and prefer vehicles in combo with infantry as it makes things more interesting and semi-realistic, also (back to console bashing) the main reason why many fps are infantry based is that consoles don't have the technogoly to generate large maps and vehicles rather than gamers actually wanting infantry combat only. Anyway each to his own I suppose but when I use to play bf2 I rarely went on IO servers, I just found it a boring nade and claymore fest.

I would love to be able to have the ability to not watch or read anything about this, and to simply play it on release day and be completely (hopefully) blown away, with everything being a complete surprise.

That would be nice :)

But everytime a new vid comes out i can't help but watch it :( (and then usually end up humming the bf2 theme music :D )

Depends which heli, most arent. Littlebird will go down from a burst of ak47 or huey or blackhawk isnt armour plated

Apache is armour plated I think, can take 50 cal fire not that they hang around. If you wanted realistic then try the PR mod which has helis firing hellfire rockets with laser guidance rather then guns.

Some aircraft are tough, A10 can land with loss of control systems. It has more then 1 set
F15 jet has been known to land with one wing only. Chinook also tough, thats in PR for bf2

How much cpu power will bf3 need I wonder

Have to agree that Arma 2 would be more to you liking than any BF incarnation. Really looking forward to this, along with the rest of XSGamers.

Well of course BF2 and BC2 have to make compromises, as they are not full on mil-sims like Arma 2. Vehicles lend a huge amount of the feeling and atmosphere to the BF series and tbh I can't see the series without them. COD4 et all are your infantry-style shooters, but I find that their player base gravitates towards the teen with hummingbird reflexes.

The 1 thing BC2 needed in vehicles was an actual delay on getting in/out of them. Its kinda stupid how if you hear the 'beep' of C4 on your vehicle you have time to bail out of it and escape most, if not all, the damage, or how you can get hit by 2 rockets and be half the map away by the time the killing blow hits, or just bail the instant you see the 3rd rocket coming at you.

If they are smart about how they use it?
Yeah...back to his original point :p

Then you need another vehicle, preferably with infantry supporting it. I can't say I've ever played a game of BC2 where some dude got in a tank and then raped the whole game without someone thinking "maybe I should blow it up". Unless I'm playing with nooooooobs!

BF isn't now nor has ever been a sim. Its not even trying to be one and for me that's for the better. ARMA2 is there as an alternative. For the most part BFBC2 is a reasonably balanced incarnation (bar some of the maps) BF1942 and BF2 had some serious problems with air-power on some of the maps, but the rest was great fun so it was just about forgiveable.

So looking forward to BF3 :)

No one said it was but for me, i enjoy arma 2 as its more realistic and more team based while BF games can be solo.

Up to you on what floats your boat

I dont understand this obsession with vehicles with infantry. The whole idea of vehicles, apaches and tanks is to totally and utterly destroy infantry. They are totally unbalanced against infantry, thats the whole point of their invention.

Why make a game where a few players can sit in vehicle and easily lay waste to the rest of the players. So a few can have fun whilst the majority dont.

You can either make a game fun and balanced for everyone or just not.

I'm hoping Battlefield 3 will have some balance, but I'm betting they will be throwing everything in and somehow expecting it to work.

Unless the infantry are needing a carer to change their nappy retarded vehicles don't stand a chance.

Still i love how we have "omg vehicles are op" then others going "omg vehicles are up and suck".

much like everything in the games they have upsides and downsides.

I would agree that vehicles are easy to counter if you aren't retarded and spend your time drooling on the keyboard.

However if you are they are a nightmare, example I was on Harvest Day as a defender in a tank. I was just sitting the river just down from the base and the infantry were for some reason charging me and shooting me with machine guns whilst the tanks would simply try to just hurtle past me expecting, or perhaps hoping, that I would choose not to shoot them  suffice to say I ended the round 26/0 K/D with 4 tank destroys and 2 nemesis pins on a pair of medics who kept suicide charging me :D

Just Engineer up, tag them and pound away with your rockets, most people are too dumb to repair so you kill them pretty swiftly.
