Steam account suspended ?

It disgusts me, the stance they choose to take on this.

The line they have written into the T&A is criminal.

If this doesn't get sorted, my pc is going up for sale to fund a console and decent laptop.

Reply to them and say you will use your card to purchase the game within 48 hours of them reactivating it, if you don't then say they can re-close the account, just mention that Paypal did a charge back without your consent and you will be happy to pay for the game by a normal means if you can access your account.

So you defrauded steam and they say "give us the money back and we'll unban your account" and this is "disgusting, and criminal" ?

Really?

So if someone came to your company and bought your products then said "lol taken me money back!!" you wouldn't be taking your property back, or would you be going straight to the police?

How about contacting pay pal and getting them to send the money?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Damien, won't be using Paypal with Steam or any similar service ever again.

Really disappointed with Steam, my opinion of them's gone down the drain along with a rather smelly poo I produced earlier.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

yeah talking to paypal like the steam email tells you to, really was a difficult conclusion to come to, I admit.

That's the last time I use paypal to buy from steam, that's utterly disgusting behaviour from them

I don't know what people really expect to happen when you effectively steal from a company, whether by your own hand or a PayPal **** up, from Valve's point of view you've bought a game and then taken your money back for no reason.

They're hardly going to just give everyone the benefit of the doubt else everyone would massively take the Michael.

PayPal screwed up, PayPal have caused this problem, it is down to PayPal to fix it.

Proof of fraud/intent to commit fraud? mistakes can and do happen, while a company has ever right to take action to prevent fraud and legal action to recover debts they also need to be reasonable about it... steam is not being reasonable.

The paypal situation could be completely out of his hands i.e. what happens if paypal was to go into administration tomorrow for instance? there needs to be more avenues to make this right.

suspending your account and saying when the paypal dispute is closed and the money returned it'll be reactivated is unreasonable?

I think they're being perfectly reasonable.

They've suspended the account that is suspected of fraudulent activity until the issue with potential fraud is cleared up and then they will unsuspend the account.

All that needs to happen is to get PayPal to give them back the money that they took back without authorisation and you'll be back gaming.

Why people use PayPal at all is beyond me frankly, i've no idea where the logic comes from in a payment system that will pay a third party for you, then check availability of funds later and if found to be not sufficient just take the money back from the third party, it's absolutely retarded.

For a long standing account in previously good standing yes. Nothing wrong with blocking future purchases until the debt is settled or taking legal action if needed/blocking account if the debt isn't settled within a reasonable amount of time.

Its not just that tho, its the lack of options, the paypal situation might be completely out of his hands i.e. steam gifts - there needs to be other ways for him to settle the matter in good faith. Completely blocking a long standing account "irreversibly" due to the limited options for resolving the situation is completely unreasonable.

I have spoken to PayPal and they have said they cannot resend the payment. I am sure I mentioned this earlier in the thread.

Not only am i shocked by steams actions, I am pretty shocked by some of your responses, it really does show the height of your horses.

Tell them that is not an acceptable solution because by their actions they have effectively implicated you in fraudulent activities.

This is PayPal's problem to fix, hound them until they fix it.

Except it's a subscription account and costs them bandwidth/money when he uses it.

This is the equivalent of charging back your electricity bill then complaining when they cut your supply off.

It seems to be a fairly common occurrence, so you'd have thought they would have implemented some sort of system to sort it out quickly. Maybe an email to say what has happened and ask you to credit your paypal account with the missing funds to regain access.

I really cant understand why they have to make it so difficult to sort out, to the point you have to email Gabe .

They're being perfectly reasonable, return the money and we'll re-activate your account.

The only party you should be blaming is PayPal.

No it isn't, it's the equivalent of your credit card company withholding £2.50 from the bill without your consent and then having your electricity cut off. And them taking back all the electricity they have given you in the past.
