OP - you've posted 16,498 times on OcUK. Have you ever seen somebody type 'Thank's' ? If so, think about the amount of times 'thanks' has been typed instead

The apostrophe in Paul Thank's denotes possession, not a contraction. It's not there because you've removed is, has or anything else.

I'm honestly not sure who is misunderstanding whom at the moment.

it's not even a contraction for has, it's possessive.

"Dave's car" simply means "Dave's car" not Dave has car, or Dave is car or anything else

Let's apply this to another situation:

The vehicle of John.

To make John the subject, first you write his name:

Then apostrophe:

John'

Then s:

John's

And you get:


John's vehicle.
