Is this a shed?

How can you buy and run a 5 Series with no income, this whole thread is stupid.

Jjustme doesn't need to have the income provided someone else who is paying for the car does have the ability to pay for it, effectively it's just pocket money on a much grander scale than most of us are used to. Whether it's right/wrong/sensible is another question entirely.

If I drive it slightly more than the main driver, how would they know?
It doesn't mean if the car crashes, it would have to be the main driver driving it?
Just search for it on the internet; a few years ago you'd have got away with it, but they're getting far more hot on it nowadays.
So if DM's daughter was posting instead of him, you'd disregard the thread the same way?

I know it's not a 20k car, but are the circumstances not similar?

(I hope I haven't got Joshy logic at this point haha)
No, I wouldn't, because she's the main driver on the policy, and, being a girl, her quote would be cheaper anyway.

Not really, because they are different cars. DM splashes out on nearly-new stuff for his kids because he's loaded.

But buying an 8 year old moneypit is somewhat different. You only buy a £6k E60 if you cant afford a decent one, and if you cant afford a decent one you can't afford to run a crap one.

DM wouldnt buy his daughter an old thing that could and would break at any moment and cost a fortune to keep going. I don't think your Dad would either, I think you are living in a dream world and will end up with your Dad buying you something far more sensible.

The benefit to DM of buying a nearly new Merc or whatever is he knows she's safe, he knows it wont break, he knows there is no faff.

What possible benefit to your father is there of buying you an 8 year old E60? Zero.

Oh right, missed that.

I just suggested this one because why spend more than you need to.
But as this is a moneypit, how much for a good pre LCI E60 cost? Would it be 10k+.

Why are you so hung up on pre LCI E60's anyway? They are all long out of warranty, they all have the horrible pre LCI interior, etc etc.

I really like the E60 shape, and "if" I can get a good one for 8k why spend 12k+, I don't mind the interior. (Made this assumption just by watching lots of youtube videos and not actually sitting in one recently lol.)

So a 17 year old, non working, student wants to buy a £6k E60 5 Series after only having passed his test 3 months ago?

What part of this thread isn't just a dream? I bet your dream is that you cruise up to the school gates in a BMW and everyone think you're the dogs ******** right?

Seriously - forget a ropey E60 5 series that's going to cost thousands every year to run and just get a decent Focus or something.

Exactly :D
I thought this thread would help me understand E60's better and which ones I should be looking at. :(

Well its not your problem if it breaks for a year, but.. just LOOK at it. You'd want to spend £9k on THAT?!

An 8 year old bottom of the range BMW?

So, Jjustme is a student at 17, has no income, and wants to buy a £6k 5-Series.

In my head it went more like, Jjustme's Dad, wants to purchase a 5-Series BMW, that Jjustme wants to get insured on and drive around thinking he is Don.

Jjustme, if you're going to get the car just to go to school/college in then there's no point.

Get something for a lot less and cheaper to run, you'll benefit from it and you can learn your driving and gain more experience, as if you do have an accident, then there will be money to fork out.

Surprised you got a £2k quote on a BMW. Because I got a £10k quote on a Mercedes. I'm 7 years older than you, and almost been passed a year.
