**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Ay up fellas!

How's everyone getting on?

I'm going to the hot sandy place soon and a friend of mine sent me this picture, thought I would share it with you :p

Ah maybe that department of yours will actually be of some use when you get out there then!

out there just now, 2 weeks in this god forsaken hole so far, temperature is alright just now, not too hot, plenty more heat to come, but the dust... the dust is breaking me already.

At the end of a day/night when you give your nose and ears a good wiping out, yummy.

Define 'rough' ??!?!?!

What do you mean exactly? How hard is the training?

or do you mean how hard is the work?

Could you yomp for miles in 40-50oc heat carrying a **** load of kit not knowing if the next step will be your last, then in an instants notice come under fire or save your friends life who has just lost a limb?

If the answer is yes, then join up :o

Only joking.... it's as hard as it needs to be, but generally from what I gather with the army the 'lads' pull you through the hard times, as you are all going through it together!

I meant rough in terms of the people. :p

Are the people on the whole pleasant (obviously your team mates :p), is it quite an equal environment etc

If your bright and lack all common sense then be an officer, your soldiers will look after you until you learn to look after yourself.

But on the question of what people are like, normal, young lads will get in bother down town and be rubbish with their money, older soldiers will have learned from their youth and sorted out their behavior and cash, some soldiers will be in between. A criminal record doesn't go down well with the army, so you're not among a group of morality lacking thieves. I live on an army estate of around 600 soldiers, there is no crime, the worst behavior you see is a party going on a bit late, so soldiers mostly are good people.

I'm infantry we're the worst apparently.

Out of interest, what regiment or corps are you in?

He's in the RAF, so he gets hotels, nice food, nice accommodation etc etc :p.
Actually went to an RAF base the other week, food was awesome, sucks having to come back to my work and have crappy food once again lol.

Ah, was going to say, the RAF have no idea what life is like beyond their luxury bases and 5* resort that is Bastion

That's like saying the Army are a bunch of uneducated hooligans who if they hadn't joined up would be in prison - laughable and untrue.

The last thing you want to do in the military is be caught stealing. We had a lot of it at training, its shocking,

My old man, ex marine, told me a story about his lot catching a thief during training. The guy was seriously injured for a long time.

Well, mostly untrue, the uneducated part at least :p.

Nah I jest. Got plenty of mates across all 3 services, everyone brings something different to the party.

Well I've gotten through the extensive and painfully long medicals. Main board in six weeks. Beginning to brick it....

This is where time flies mate.

One minute I had my medical, next thing I was on the bus to training. It all happened in the blink of an eye.

Exciting stuff though.
