I'm going to be ordering a new H/D within the next few days but not sure of which one to actually go for. I've been looking at this: Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) [HD103SJ]

Basically it's a seperate H/D to record onto. I've been using an external H/D and I can can record full screen with no lag in-game (BC2) using MSI Afterburner, but because my external is USB the transfer rate isn't exactly impressive so the picture comes out a bit choppy - so I want a fast H/D (that isn't an SSD because I don't have that sort of money).

I've heard good reviews about the SpinPoint F3 but I was wondering should I consider any others??

Thanks.

I have 8 1TB F3's and they've given me no problems.

I assume you're going to connect it to a SATA port inside your PC for maximum speed?

Yep. My main H/D is connected up via SATA cable, but it's best if I record onto a seperate H/D so I'll connect that one up the same way too.

Seeing as you have 8 (which is a lot!) I'm guessing it's the obvious choice to go for?

I don't think it would make that much difference for purely recording, I think it's more for general performance.

This is from wikipedia:

In order to read or write data in a particular place on the disk, the read/write head of the disk needs to be physically moved to the correct place. This process is known as seeking, and the time it takes for the head to move to the right place is the seek time.

Because you will be writing to the same part of the drive and won't be moving about to different locations I think it's irrelevant.

Not 100% sure, it's just my understanding :)
