Waiting for deliveries

Its one of the things I really hate doing which is a big part of why I moved to a flat with a reception desk who sign for all the parcels.

Great the custom fab parts have been made wrong, checked my drawings and there spot on, full scale print off to items made items made wrong!

However 14ft helped bend them a little to fit so happy

What I don't understand (well, I do sort of) is that you give out your mobile phone number at every available opportunity during the buying process, yet none of the buggers ever bother using it.

It would be so nice if you could rely only on having your mobile with you at all times to be sure to not miss a delivery. Yes the ringing ahead of time is good, but if they get no answer from the doorbell, they should buzz your phone and see what's going on.

Then you could be in the bath, shower, still asleep, whatever, and still not miss the delivery. It would also save the delivery firm money as they wouldn't have to re-visit. I suspect getting the drivers to do this is a step too far, however.

You should also be able to track your parcel in real time online via GPS. That would be cool. I guess there are security issues with this though.

If drivers telephoned at every delivery where there was no answer, they'd never clear their rounds, so it isn't practical normally.

GPS tracking is used by some couriers, but not really for end users, it's for operations. Massive security risk with this, like you say.

That's great isn't it :-) They did that at Staffs Uni when I was in their halls - got boxes signed at their security office. They ought to do that when couriering to residential users too. Have a local shop doubling up as a security office to take deliveries for the local 9-5 workers. In the same fashion on how local PC shops can become Epson Express Centres, except that the contract would be between said shop and courier services.

I had a new one the other day, not from ocuk, just a general online order. Parcel never arrived when it should have done, trawled the internet for a phone number as their website only gives you the general automated system rubbish... made even harder by the fact no card was left!

I love the fact that it says "you were out" on these sites as well. Or "sorry we missed you". NO, it should be "sorry we're too stupid to find you".

Anyway, I finally find the depot number and speak to the chap who says "oh yeah, he's probably just delivered it somewhere else if you have no card either".

Realllllllyyyyy... well I'll be! You don't say! lol.

Managed to get a brief description of where I live put on to the parcel and then it magically arrived the next day. I really do despise delivery people at times, just their rubbish attitude. Gives them all a bad rep.

DHL have started to do something like this now.

Indeed. My thought though was that they'd save time in total, as re-deliveries would be cut.

The other issue I suppose, is that you'd get loads of people saying 'I'm 30 seconds away, can you hang on'.

It's annoying, I don't mind RM as I just go collect. One of those safety boxes you put outside your door with a padlock would be great.

i just set my expectations that it isn't going to arrive when they say it is.. so when it does.. i am extra excited

I prefer to know when it is due to arrive because my RM delivery office shuts at 1pm every day so sometimes have to wait 4+ days till a Saturday when i can pick it up if i miss it at start of the week.
