Hi everyone,

I just built my PC, here is the spec below.

Spec1-1.jpg

I just wanted to know what temperature it should be running, in BIOS I am seeing 65-70 degrees, is this a lot?

Would you guys suggest a different thermal compound/fan?

Or any more help to keep it cooler if running too hot?

Thanks in advance.
Suraj

Thanks Infamous,

It won't be overclocked for a while, the heatsink is seated fine (by my eyes) is there any thermal paste you suggest? Also whats best to use to remove the old one?

Thanks

Yeah that looks quite high for idle temps.

Are you using the stock cooler?

Try reseating it, and check that there's enough thermal compound and that its made contact with the CPU.

The thermel paste that arrives on the stock heat sink is alright for stock, Put it this way i have a 2600K Overclocked to 4.5ghz, is idle at around 30 c, but a proper heat sink etc, 65-70 is to high!! Must not be proper contact i would take it off and put it on again!

Thanks boys, will try later on after work, I thought it was too high, why I asked.

Will let you guys know later on, thanks again :)

Ouch, doesnt sound good. Im waiting on an i5-2500k myself and plan to use stock settings with stock cooler for a few months atleast.

These temps dont look good, please update us Suj if there is a significant change in temps.

I think I might not of seated the cooler properly (well I hope lol)
I will definitely update for you mate.

Thanks sk82jack, thats excellent.
If I remove the cooler, would it cause air to get into the thermal paste?

sould be cooler once reseating it

arctic silver is very good

arctic silver was great a few years ago, but there a non-conductive compounds that are as good available now.

The other thing to bear in mind is that temps in the BIOS are normally quite high as there is no processor power save in operation (but not quite that high!).

I hope so too stevewah!

Thanks philjohn, my mate suggested the same thing, but not as high as mine, as his only runs around 40degrees on BIOS.

Will reseat as soon as I get home, I asked before, but question might of got missed, if I move the cooler from the thermal paste, will I cause air bubbles to get trapped?

Thanks again!

Any truth behind this? as someone suggested to me, don't want to mess anything up lol

crap lol
I have no paste, anywhere that might hold this (stores wise)

And what is used to remove the old one?

Thanks for reply

Thanks dude, my mate has some of that Tim Clean.

Will check if he has thermal paste too, it might not be Artic Silver, can others be as good for a short term while I order some Artic Silver?

Thanks

Anything is better than the pre applied stock paste on those heatsinks, it really sucks. :)

I wouldnt order arctic silver nowadays - there are many better pastes now - MX2 or MX3 would be my choice for a standard user.
