I have spent £8500 running my 5 Series - which was half the age of that one when I bought it - over the last 4.5 years.

It isnt just repair bills, its everything that goes with a car like that - of which repair bills are a significant part.

Ouch !

W210 Merc E class or Transit Van. Only things that can be made comfortable for me.

I don't know if it's specifically an issue with newer Transits but I hired one within the past year and it was uncomfortable for long distances - it would have been uncomfortable for short distances too as the mirrors, seat, steering wheel etc were all at the wrong height* but it was especially noticeable going further. I'm only 6'4" as well, at 6'9" you'd be batting your head off the top of the cab unless you've got lowered seats which probably then means your legs would have to be doubled up to deal with the pedals.

Maybe older Transits had more options - I don't know but this one was a max of 3-4 years old and was hopeless for me.

*And I did try to adjust them as much as possible.

So, Jjustme is a student at 17, has no income, and wants to buy a £6k 5-Series.

In my head it went more like, Jjustme's Dad, wants to purchase a 5-Series BMW, that Jjustme wants to get insured on and drive around thinking he is Don.

That sounds about right.

Hes only got a 2k quote because he is fronting. Hell it cost me £1400 at 18 on a rubbish shopping trolley Seat Ibiza

I really don't get the Transit suggestion as I feel cramped for leg room in one (lwb, medium roof with bulkhead) and have the seat as far back as it'll go and I'm only 5'10.

I think I have to be the luckiest person in the world in regards to insurance. £650 tpft at 17, £650 fc with a fault accident at 18, both on a classic mini, with mild modifications. £850 fc on an mx5 at 19, with a years NCB and said accident.

My friends wonder how I manage it.... when I am catagorically not fronting or doing anything below board.

I certainly can't insure an M5, mind :p
