If you don't have an iPhone...

You also have to factor in resale value when comparing prices, a Macbook will sell for a lot more than than generic Acer laptop would, same goes for the iPhone.

If you're after value for money in something you're planning to 'use', why would resale value come into the equation ? I buy things to keep - not to sell.

I bet no one has a phone that is as awesome as this:

So..... you don't like that Apple systems retain more of their market value and don't depreciate as quickly as off the shelf systems?

Would you not buy a car because it retains more of its value over time than another car?

No, I wouldnt.

I'd buy a car to do its task, I wouldnt buy it because it wouldnt decrease in value quickly.

Same with anything I buy, Whether it would retain value for resale is nowhere in mind. I rarely sell things on.

So OcUK aren't system builders ?? I'm sure they're not anywhere near as expensive as Apple.

(And I built my own Mac Pro for well under 75% of the price)

Of course they're system builders, they don't make workstations though. There's a difference.

Mid spec Apple Pro - £2,859.00
Closest Spec Dell T7500 Workstation - £2,736.00

...Yes? It's a pretty good selling point, particularly if you're someone who likes to upgrade often.

You mean the customer service that denies your warranty if you report an exploding Apple product to the press?

It is excellent, are you saying it isn't? Stop pulling extremely rare and vague stories out of the air.

What other company will let you walk in to their shop with a broken phone after owning it for months and instantly replace it on the spot?

You don't half talk some rubbish.

Indeed, I didnt mean to push the thread in this direction. I was actually sort of defending Iphone pricing.

I wouldn't personally buy a Mac, but its because I build computers myself and I know I could build a machine exactly the same as any mac, with a large saving.

Customer services are fine, If you search the history of any company, you'll find dodgy goings on somewhere. **** happens.

To be honest, Apple are a good company, they have a fantastic range of "go together" gadgets. Much more so than PCs.

Anything apple just works with anything apple. It's my main love of the company.

The iPhone (the first one) was a huge rip off for what you got on overpriced tariffs. The prices came down a lot after everyone complained how expensive the first was.

Nice try sparky, but the Acer you have selected, as5820T-354G32Mns, in this comparison is discontinued and isn't actually for sale on any retail outlets.

How about you put together a comparison for a laptop that, you know, you can actually buy?

Umm £33 difference?...hardly ridiculous.

As a percentage of the actual product price it's quite significant.
But looking at the ram prices they look just as bad but I have no idea what make/speed the ram is.
Edit: Cheers for that guy who picked up on your mistake.

Is that the 2gb drive though, what system is it take from. As the 1gb is a wester caviar drive.

Just looking at overclockers hard drive list it would most likely be the one around the £80 mark as the hard drives over £80 are Sata 3, Sata 3 in a x58 machine is a bit of a waste. Equally sata 3 on a mechanical hard drive is still a waste, but I doubt they would use Sata 3 as they would mention it.

You keep things forever do you? Really?

Yep - or until they break. The only things I look for resale value in is cars, and even then I'm currently on year 6 of my newly bought car which I don't see myself changing any time soon.

Resale 'may' be important if/when I come to move house, but I certainly didn't factor it in to my purchasing.

Check out any of the Dell Inspirons over £400.

Or the XPS ranges, that are closer to the Macbooks price(But cheaper), but with higher spec

All running I3's or I5's, All having more than 3GB memory and 320GB drives. Some are 17" screens too, not just 13.3.

XPSs having Nvidia graphics, the XPS 15 is a good £200 cheaper and my favourite as far as a rival would go for the macbook

I didnt realize it couldnt be bought, I went to the first option I had on google for Acer laptops.

Wow, i might just be beat.

Though i am somewhat mystified by the ambiguous 'Graphics - HD Graphics' next to the graphics chipset. Lets do a bit of digging. Oh yes, here we are:

Intel HD Graphics

The Macbook has an integrated graphics solution from nvidia, miles better than the Intel chipset and therefore: not a valid comparison

Try again.
