MS Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - May 2011 question....

You have to run it by going start/run/ then typing mrt

Thanks, i understand now. It runs automatically in the background when it downloads, but if you do it manually you get the scanning window.

What

Dont be silly unplug the lan cable when finished installing if you are that paronoid or wear a metal hat lol

Or safe mode

Why do people think that they will get a virus as soon as the connection is established

I have run MANY pc's withought a antivirus and NOT got a virus,

Back in the day, and on one of many re-installs, i went online to get my Win updates before installing my AV software. Blaster worm infection hit the second i connected to the net. Re-installs took forever back then so i was not happy.

1, malwarebytes is not an anti virus app
2, certain spyware can restore itself after being cleaned if the connection is up.

Well it looks like a reinstall is the only way to go! :(

Ran Spybot and maywarebytes and then installed Microsoft Security Essentials and it cant even run a full scan coz of loads of infected files!!

Soooo annoying, I've had PC's for 15 years and never click on dodgy stuff!!!

:mad::mad::mad:

I repeat

I have install hundreds of machines (as that is part of my job) and i get all the updates as its installing as i choose auto update during the install and i NEVER EVER get viruses lol

You boys are so paronoid

also in safe mode any process that would run in normal mode will not be running so would NOT connect to any servers of any sort (if that is what it is programed to do NOT all are)

so stop using me as your " HAY LOOK IM GREAT COS IM TRYING TO SLATE SOMEONE" Goat ,,,, as there is NOTHING wrong with safe mode with networking etc otherwise WHY PUT IT THERE "stupid microsoft hay" LMAO

Also i use Microsoft Security suite as i find that the best antivirus (suppose i get slated for that now eh)

To the origanal OP " it will not give you a terminal illness if you run safe mode with networking to diagnose the system as all major proccesses are TURNED off and the virus/trojen/malware/STD's ;) are not running ,ONLY the main windows core processes are, so please dont listen to everyone saying you "WILL" get a virus as soon as the buttons pressed . Hope you get it sorted and sorry for trying to help

1 Yes i do know this i never mention anything about the differance dont know why you say this to me ?
2 NOT IN SAFE MODE IT WONT (if you can boot into safe mode)

Unfortunately not - its my Samsung netbook thats got infected! I'm sure I could probably get it sorted and all trace of the "virus" deleted but that would take more time than a full reinstall!

Oh well....

I have no interest whatsoever in "using you" as you put it, I am not trying to slate anybody in any way shape or form.

Personally I don't like it but that's me.

I have never once said that the OP will get a virus or whatever I am saying that it is not recommended practice to leave a system connected to the internet without a form of protection in place which is exactly what Safe Mode with Networking does imho. You state that only the core processes for Windows are run which was my point to begin with there is no firewall or anything to guard against infection.

rkill (download it and literally spam it everytime a process closes it early) & combofix (right after you run rkill, no restarts or other programs should be opened) & MBAM (fully updated, from safe mode after a fresh restart after combofix has run), there's some nasty rootkits floating around right now and soon to be a flurry more with a certain source leak recently. If you run windows it's probably a good idea to be overcautious for a while.
