i dont know what you classify as a normal PSU but is my PSU a normal ATX one and will i be able to replace it with the BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply.

its 240W PSU, just a single black power cable at the back.

Model number: fsp250-60hen

I think the screw mountings on the back should be your first port of call, as if they don't match up to ATX then it's game over anyway. Your PSU does look ATX from that rather poor and blurry image! Why not google the model number to find out for sure?

Google that number and you'll see from the first result (and pretty much all the others) that it's an standard ATX PSU.

The four screws must be in the correct positions, not simply how many, I should have made that clear, but the model number answers our question anyway.

You'll have to be careful about length of the new PSU though, those nasty pre-built machines give little clearance to the optical drive (and associated cables), so anything larger than what you've got might not fit, even if it is ATX.

Whats the model number?

In this forum there's a guy who wanted to do the same thing with a Packard Bell Imedia 1569. That thread is from 2006 and he managed to fit a normal PSU in so I would imagine you would be able to.

The PSU is quite big itself so the BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply should fit fine

Ahh I've seen that before on HP prebuilts from the same place. I think in the end I mounted a PSU upside down in it and had to cut out a tab of metal from the top left to get it to fit. Damn, that's annoying.

I can't be sure until I get home and check, but I think my girlfriend's old PSU only had four screws, but the holes' position match that of an ATX PSU. Like I say, can't be sure at the moment (and I might just be making up wishful thinking on your behalf), but if I remember to do so I'll have a look when I get home in a couple of hours.

Can somebody please spec me a PSU that is guaranteed to work (pics above) and is 500-550 watts thanks.

This is the last part of my system as my 5850 is coming and i need a PSU too power it.

Hang on -- I've replaced many a dell pc with these PSUs. Some of those FSP PSUs have a retainer clip at the back that can't be removed. If yours has this then be careful of the weight of the new PSU because only the for case screws will be holding it up.. I've replaced with branded PSUs and they have been fine without but ideally I'd search for a direct replacement. Just a heads up really. I've tried googling a picture - no joy.

Can you confirm this?

sorry, what do you mean by a retainer clip??

it's like a ledge strip build on to the psu which inserts into the top of the case.

i am pleased to tell you i just unscrewed the four screws and took the PSU out of the case, so i can disconnect it fully if i want too, so it looks like that is sorted???????? tell me if u agree with me on that.
