hi i have a toshiba satellite pro l300. i have been wanting to upgrade the cpu but it is soldered or glued on. if i were to take this of would i be able to replace it with a better cpu and if so how would i do this and what problems may i face??

First of all are you sure it is soldered on? It won't me glued on ;)

If it is soldered you will need a heat gun to assist you in removing it....To be honest if you have never done something like this before don't do it, you WILL ruin your laptop.

Also, does your machine use a desktop or mobile version of a CPU? Mobile (mobile as in for laptops) CPUs are not widely available as desktop CPUs.
 
If it is soldered on i presume it will be a BGA (ball grid array) which are horrible to rework. I did some training as part of my engineering apprenticeship and its deffinatly not a job for a novice, i wouldnt even attempt it now as you will need some good equipment to make a neat job of it without damaging anything else on the motherboard.

And will probably cost more and a lot of head scratching but if you feel confident enough and like the head scratching or you just want to play around, by all means.
Legacy items usually cost more as well.
MM/eBay it and buy a new one.
 
I've never seen a CPU to be glued on.

I have a feeling you're confusing the northbridge with the processor. The latter will almost always be under a fan/heatsink combo which needs to be removed via unscrewing several small screws.
