Hi all

Can you guys please help me spec a Core i5 2500k system to use two Monitors.

System will be primarily used for MS Office and recording screencasts (tutorials). No gaming.

Looking at the Fractal Define R3 case (other suggestions welcome - dislike seeing optical drives) so welcome any extra fans, if required.

Don't require monitors, OS, or Optical drive.

Budget £400-500

Thanks

I'd like to overclock hence an i5 2500k.

Would I be able to plug and use two monitors into that MOBO at the same time?

Yes you can use upto two monitors at once, it has these outputs,

1 x D-Sub port
1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
* The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.
1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200

Your budget doesnt really allow for a 2500K, you need a P67 or Z68 chipset to overclock a "K" cpu

But you dont get any outputs to monitors with a P67 chipset needing a discrete GPU.

1. What about a CPU cooler?
2. Motherboard seems quite pricey, worth it in your opinion?

Last edited:
the motherboard is full size ATX and loaded with features and connections.

Compared to the gigabyte I specced (which is a mATX sized board) the AsRock has:

1 more PCIe 2.0 slot (running at x8)
1 more PCIe x1
2 PCI slots, where the gigabyte has no PCI slots
2 more SATA 6.0GB/s (taking the total to 8 SATA connections)
2 more USB 2.0 ports (taking the total to 8 USB ports)
more VRM power

Full details here.

Thank you guys so far.

Last few questions (hopefully):

3. How does the Asrock Z68 EXTREME4 compare to Asus P8Z68-V PRO Z68? (in short which one's better)
4. BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W Power Supply, worth £6 more over the Corsair Builder Series CX 430W?
