will a 750w antec psu be enough for gtx480 in SLI with the rest of the machine ??

470s should run on 850w. That looks to me like the OCP didn't work.

Nice little finger in your sig as well haha.

They should and probably would at stock. Overclocked to 850 is what probably killed the psu.

Still disappointed in the psu though. It is one of the best - Seasonic M12 850W and really shouldn't have allowed so much current down the wires that they melted.

Took out my mobo as well :(

My m12 600w was dodgy as well. Killed off my 8800GTX and damaged (I think) my 285gtx before I discovered it was the problem. I always had a hunch but I thought naaaa it's seasonic! So I kept replacing all other parts. Then it just couldn't handle a 480gtx and I refused to believe I had 3 dodgy cards.

Notice the blackened socket on the 24 pin? That's from overloading a CM850 with 470sli, new psu and mobo needed after that little fiasco, don't risk it, it's just not worth it.

Running 470 sli on a corsair HX850 here, cpu at 4.2ghz, cards at 750/1500/1674, on stock voltage of 0.987. In game they pull 630w ono according to my power monitor, furmark tops out at 740w ono. Prime95 and furmark together was showing a draw of 860w, stopped that one pretty quickly.

Fortunatly my Q9550 setup draws 109watt less at 4gig compared to a similiarish i7 920 setup at 4gig :D and I have no intention of running furmark anyhow.

Definitely wont be running furmark again either, the i7's are pretty power hungry chips. Also keeping the cards on a modest oc or even stock helps, as nothing i play taxes them that much.

Am I right in thinking with the current process shrinks future set ups should start using less power than current ones whilst being faster? Or is that wishful thinking? :)

+1 iam running same sort off set up with a thermaltake 850w with 470's and i think iam cutting it close so defo look for more than 850 + for 480sli

Do you have the gpu's clocked at all Mr May. The thermaltake toughpower psu's are very good units, made by cwt, as are a lot of the high end corsairs including the hx850.

Just had a look at anandtech's bench for sli 480's, under furmark they use 851w but under crisis it's only 668w, that's for the full system. If you just run games and don't use any benchmark programs like furmark u should be fine. Also if u do somehow use too much the psu will just shut down, it shouldn't damage any components as its a good quality psu u have there.

Edit: although, having seen some of the other posts, it's still a risk.
