Strauss kahn accused of rape

My understanding was that he was accused of sexual assault, which covers everything from gabbing a boob to full-on rape. Is it now confirmed to be rape?

The sooner they grant anonymity to both parties (rather than just the "victim") the better. Only when they are convicted should their name then be released.

But what if they guy is a serial rapist, who has scared his previous victims so badly that they won't come forward? Until they see he's done it to somebody else too, maybe now the police will believe them .....

Just because it will utterly destroy a persons life is no reason to protect their identity.

He's been charged with sexual assault and attempted rape, along with false imprisonment

He alledgedly forced her into giving him oral, the police claim they have DNA evidence and she picked him out of a line up. His defence are going to claim he has as a stonewall alibi in that he was having lunch in a restaurant at the time.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out, but if his alibi turns out true then it does suggest an attempt to sabotage his political ambitions.

The version I read says she came in to clean the room and he came running out of the bathroom in his "birthday suit" - then stopped her from leaving and forced himself on her.

I dunno, it's hard not to be suspicious...

Does seem a little suspicious/unlikely, I wonder if there really is any evidence... Also this other woman from 10 years ago - why would she suddenly decide that she got raped and this was terrible, but had somehow forgotten to report it for the last 10 years - doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, all I hope is that the courts are fair and that they find out what really did/didn't happen.

Rape allegations: hard to prove, hard to disprove.

Indeed... and yet they are a surefire way to cast a shadow over anyones career. I really don't like the amount of coverage that 'accusations' get.

Totally agree.

I'm not sure, to be honest. He has been charged which makes one think the allegation has truth to it, and apparently Dominique has a history of seduction and womanising. Who knows.

aye, there's an interesting piece about it in the Guardian today. clicky clicky

It seemed striking that when Strauss-Kahn left for the IMF in Washington in 2007, with many politicians privately wondering how he would cope in a puritan US which frowns upon sexual advances, only one journalist raised the issue. Brussels correspondent for Libération, Jean Quatremer, wrote on his blog: "Strauss-Kahn's only real problem is his relationship to women. Too heavy … it borderlines harassment." Strauss-Kahn's communications team asked him to take the blog down. Quatremer explained to Le Parisien that he had refused, saying if they thought it was libellous, they could sue. They did not.

i can't help but wonder if there isn't a grain of truth to the allegations, given his past history & attitude. only time will tell i guess.

Sorry but you were all taking too long.

Because of course chamber maids are usually well up on the who's who of the banking world. I doubt many people here would have known who he was.
I'm just saying that if it was a smear (I don't think it was), then the fact she picked him out of a line up is a non-starter. But who knows.

Only if. Innocent until proven guilty and just as DSK will be treated as such, so should the woman's accusations before questions of smear should be raised.

That being said, this seems like a perfectly acceptable use of those superfluously-used gag orders that celebrities have been getting to cover up their sordid escapades that nobody gives a **** about. Talk about wasted resources...

Maybe not, but if I were decide to accuse the head of the IMF of attempted rape, my picking him out of a lineup should mean nothing purely on the fact that I can see precisely what he looks like after a fifteen second Google :p
