6990+6970 tri-fire...

lol you wonder why your temps are so hot with that much space? ;)

IMG_0381-1.jpg
mine have the same space as that and my temp gets to 75-80c , noway near 90-100c...

only 2 differents, i have a 6990 + 6950, and the 6950 is in the first slot and the 6990 is in the second slot

undoubtedly the card will run hot on stock but only because they cream the gpu's with TIM, as they dont wanna risk putting too little on and risk it frying and them having to replace them, but having them on stock coolers and being that close together, im supprised they dont cook themselfs :O not sure on the temp limit on the chips? im guessing its a bit over 100deg though?

mine idling at 41c-43c in this warm weather.... maybe because i have a haf-x

i uselly run mine at 950 with stock voltage

the temp limit of the chips should be the same of 6970 chip,

any idea of what they are? ;)

I remember the 4xxx series being quoted at somewhere around 120C - ATI chips can run hot, but that doesn't mean you want them to. In all honesty, if you can afford that kind of setup, you can at least invest in some decent cooling - if you are at all interested in the lifespan of the hardware that is. My 6990 boils even in a well ventilated case and with a watercooler CPU limiting case temps - couldn't imagine having anything else near it.

yeah thats why when i crossfire my unlocked 6950 i think ill for out an extra £270 for a complete watercooling kit with 2 6950 water blocks making it something like £500 just to crossfire -.- so in otherwords, its bloody expensive! xD

I have the 6990 in the top slot and the the 6970 in slot 3, which is a good distance. That setup pictured above is epic fail!

In between I have the Xonar the GT 440

I also have a make shift fan setup that is controlled by the front NZT controller and thus quiet when it needs to be
I modded this during i43 and I liked it! Not everyone's taste but people who use neons in their case deserve to be punched!

Comments welcome

surely the side door fan does the same job has that fan at the side of your cards...

also having the other 2 fans surely would mess up the air flow inside the case and the bottom one would be taking the warm air from your hdd and blowing in to your graphic cards....

on mine i've got 2 fans at the top, 1 fan at the rear, the side door fan, and the front fan, i get no issue with temps

Just to explain

The side fan takes cold air from the side
The fan over the gcards blows directly onto them and can hit 1200rpm and 140cfm
The front fan on the HAF-X draws cold air in
The HDD heat output is negligible and they are hardly used
The two 120mm fans that sit just in front of the gcards take cold air from the front and blow over the GPUs and toward the rear
This is necessary for the 6990 at the top - see the heat image below
The top fans extract and the fans on the H70 are 1900rpm Scythes - hitting 1900 on full load - extract also
The temps of the 6990 have bee improved with this setup. The 6970 temps have been reduced also

At i42, we had some guy with a thermal camera

Before introduction of larger side fan and front 120mm fans

From the above, you can see temps of over 85degC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

----------->
After I used a large 140mm side fan at 1200rpm/140cfm max and also two front 120mm fans blowing over 6990 and 6970

Idle

Load under Heaven 2.5 benchmark for 3 minutes

Again, temps have come down dramatically. A good 20degC when loaded

Ohh, fancy!

Anymore details on this?

Holy smokes, thats a big case!

No offense but I don't get why the dislike should someone have some sort/or like something you don't. Thats life. There's no need to **** people for it.

Quote fail, so here goes

1. At i42, Heat Hunters came around and shot some thermal pictures of people's comps for a fee. It allowed me to track the changes of additional fan setups

2. It was partly a joke. I have red fans. I could take OFFENCE at your poor grammar and spelling but I choose not to. And I didn't **** off anyone in particular did I? I think I was simply stating that I haven't built this rig to impress aesthetically. It's a monster. Raw power.

Amusing this internet lingo.

I've lost count the amount of times I've read that.

Well excuse me for not coming down to your "epic" standards while I'm working through the night. Did you see what I did there? ¬_¬

And I didn't **** off anyone in particular did I?

Just a very arrogant tone trying to discredit others. Then falling back on the joke excuse.

Yeah I've noticed that, followed by self opinionated arrogance. Sadly.

:)

"Quote fail" meant that if you press quote on your post, it doesn't allow me to easily split out each section and I cannot be bothered adding [quote...] etc, hence above

Let's agree to disagree and consider the written word to lack emotion or any sort of paralinguistic features associated with being a little cheeky

Hopefully some will get ideas from this. If not, no worries :p

Like the route i have used with my 2 lightnings 6970s check out thresd for temps etc what front intake fan you using? Swopped mine out for an fn-200 166cfms on controller made a good difference to the standard HAF X 1 fan temps dropped 5+°. currently at 65 and 62° with 1 pci-e gap between cards.
