Britain out of Ireland!

there is probably close to 5 million people on the whole island. just shows you how much of a minority these people are. they arrested and charged 15 of them too from that protest, which is great!!

its good the republic is finally maturing and stopped blaming people about things that pretty much no-one of this generation was involved in. we've all moved on

I wonder just how much of an effect the attitudes of some discourages what I would imagine could be lucrative and much needed tourist trade from the UK (and probably more specifically England who seem to get the lions share of the sentiment).

It's completely understandable that there are old wounds, but there has to be a look to the future eventually. Perhaps the sad thing is it'll continue to fester unless NI votes to unify with Eire and even then I could see it taking a couple of generations, not to mention causing a whole raft of new issues.

Perception is everything when it comes to things like tourism and business and the few wanting to settle scores from the past create a unfair picture, possibly to the detriment of the majority of the Irish economy.

I'm quite sure a good chunk of the Irish population really don't care about the queen visiting, it'd be good to think it could be taken as the olive branch and step forward it seems to have been intended as though.

Exactly, and if Ireland realise the error of their ways and return like an errant child to the nurturing bosom of the Kingdom, all will be well :)

The meander into football teams and associations was pure genius even for a GD thread :)

Oh, and always useful to have found out Castiels encyclopedic knowledge doesn't extend to Cricket. Made a note to introduce that into any future debate with him as a distraction. :D ;)

I don't have a problem with anyone who believes in independence for their own country. However to be "anti-British" is as close to racist as you can get.

Not in terms of the British politik it isn't.

You can be anti-immigration without being racist, so I don't see how you have such justification for these claims.

I dont actually think living in Scotland would gave anyone more information on whether an independent Scotland would work, the fact is theres too much that would have to be decided before anyone could make that call. Nationalists insist the North Sea oil is ours and base their workings on that, take that out of the equation and with the debt we would have its currently unworkable.

I wasn't claiming they do, but merely fighting his suggestion that he know's better than most Scot's.

Yes I was, I said roughly 10%, it is roughly 10%.

Ok, you were considering your post.

But it still isn't 10% though, and it'd still be more than our fair share IF that's how it is apportioned..

Glad to see your going to give it all an honest chance though, hopefully that is something replicated across the spectrum.

As a business owner do you support or oppose the transfer of more fiscal power?

Troll.

Clearly a country pertaining to GB can count.

If I say I hate Europe and go on holiday to Switzerland its a bit hypocritical isnt it? Same as saying you hate GB and yet give money over to an economy based in Scotland..

In the case of FOOTBALL it doesnt. If getting your semantics right means im a troll so be it, better than being a moron.
