Doctor receptionists **** me off

The same women answered?

I would assume so. It isn't really suprising when some work in open space next to each other.

Although she could have said no one was available I suppose, but in spite of OP's experiences they clearly like to **** you off.

Yeh or "we will do everything we can to get you that appointment tomorrow"

Seems it's not just my experience though going by the little hitler comments

we have to do the whole phone at 8 and get a same day appointment at my own doctors

they dont take into account that some people who are ill cannot be at the phone at 8 , or that some people are working at 8 , or that some people need to let there employer know more than a few hours beforehand

getting a non important appointment becomes both hassle and a guilt trip knowing that theres probably more ill people who cant get a slot.

and then theres the receptionist who thinks she is a doctor and wants to know every single detail and claims you cant have an appointment without her knowing.

have been stuck in circles with this one before

''why do you want to see the Dr?''
''because i want to see the Dr''

Is that for everywhere or just certain areas?

My doctors have never done that but not been for 3-5months or so, But the doctors my other half goes too has to follow that 8.30am rule

has this been in effect for a while?

My partner works in a doctors practice as a receptionist, this is all I hear when I get home. I'm not 100% sure but there seems to be about 10 free appoinments every day which you have to phone up at dead on 8:30 to get. As you can imagine people get annoyed about this - how am I supposed to know when I am ill ect.

The thing is a receptionist is just that. They sit infront of the computer, answer the phone see what free appoinments are available and thats it ( a few other admin jobs aswell ) They can not help if the doctor is running late. How many people complain to the receptionist about this yet when they actually see the doctor, say nothing. Most IMO.

If you really need to see someone and can not get in at the doctors, does your town not have a walk in center?

Have been going to the GP at my uni for the last few years and recently it seems to be ridiculous there. Last time I went they didn't have the 8.30 rule but the first available non-urgent appointment was over a week away, I almost said "well I'll either be better or dead by then...". I really don't see the benefit of the 8.30 rule, if it's not an emergency then surely everyone should just be able to book as they used to, if it is then you should probably be going to the hospital. :\

Awesome, so i'll be a receptionist talk down to people get snarky with people and get away with it because it's a difficult job :o

You might want to get off that high horse (careful it is a long fall) as Receptionists are human beings too.

You knew how the system works and yet you tied up the receptionist with a pointless query. Did you expect a cheery response?

ive had to wait a week to see my GP again for an issue ive been back twice with now, so now after the 3rd im on a different set of meds.

still, not as funny as what happened 5 years ago, parents ring up doctors, think i may be diabetic, sorry we cannot see him until later this week, but they failed to understand the point was i was going away to geneva that weekend with 6th form, so, i think you can see what happened to me :D

Yeh I have a high horse so i can look down on people like you, OH WAIT That's what the receptionist was doing with me..

See what I did there? :o

I know how bad it is Neil, I had a nasty chest infection not too long ago, It was starting to set my asthma off bad so I had to go through the trouble of trying to make an appointment over the phone. I couldn't get through to anybody after a few days of trying, it just sent me through to a machine spewing out dates and times, some of which were nearly two weeks later. If I declined those dates it just cut me off and I had to start again.

Luckily my Grandma is very good at nagging and went in and sorted me an appointment :D

My local doctors is pretty good, If I need to go I get down for 7:50 doors open at 8:10, twenty minute wait to be seen first :D

The staff are pretty rude at times, they look so depressed sometimes.
