Ok, i'm sure everybody knows that Terraria is a BLATANT rip-off of Minecraft.. If I was Notch i would be trying to sue big time.
I'm just surprised that there is so much hype for this new game, which in my opinion cannot live up to Minecraft.
Would you rather build things in 2d, or 3d? I know which one I would prefer. Also the fighting.. There was something challenging in Minecraft about trying to avoid the creepers blowing up on you, and destroying zombies by strafing left to right and going around and around. How can you do that in 2d?
All i can say is SHAME ON YOU to all the people that buy this incredibly thieving, un-original game.
To the makers of Terraria, how could you? I did not make Minecraft, and i still feel hurt that people will steal and try ruin what was such an ORIGINAL and fun game.
Please for the love of original gaming, leave this one alone

Hahaha if its good people will purchase it no matter what.

I will if/when I ever get the moneys to looks good and I want to play MP.

I haven't played the game, so I must admit i cant say too much, but then again, it just doesn't feel right playing something that was stolen from another dev. An indie dev, not a big corporate business that doesnt give two damns

Minecraft wasn't an original idea. :p

Everything is inspired by something, it isn't a blatant rip off. If it were in 3D and had the same UI but different skinned monsters and claimed it as their own, then yeah that's a blatant rip off.

It may have stolen parts of mincraft's idea but it is a totaly different game, 2D RPG with Big Boss Battles.

How many games have used an idea from another, i'll tell you now LOTS!

Are you mad have you seen the sales of Minecraft? well over 1 million he has made and counting could be at the 2 million mark now.

And yes they obviously took ideas from Minecraft but that's how life is.

They spotted a chance to make money and did so they did not RIP Minecraft of 100%.

I wish I had thought and had the skill to make a game and make money vast sums of it but I don't damn I wish I had £1 tbh :P.

@notch What's your opinion on the new game Terraria? It's
gained a lot of popularity recently! Is it a copy, innovative, original?

notch Markus Persson
@K4tzZy4 Looks like some of the
inspiration might have been minecraft, but it's definitely an original game. It looks like a lot of fun

The more developers take note of Minecraft and start to do similar things, the better. I love minecraft to bits, but almost every time I play I find myself wondering how much better it would be if it had such-and-such in.

It's such a kick in the teeth to developers who've been stuck doing Generic FPS IV for the past decade that the more of them that take note of it and start to try to emulate it the better.

Minecraft itself is not an original game, I believe its based on Infiniminer. Notch owns Minecraft not the entire genre. Maybe the owners of Lego should go sue Notch :P he stole the idea of a building block game! Heheh..

The majority of games released are clones/copies/variations on what has previously been released. If you can't release a game because it has bits in from other titles, we'd have no MW2, no Halo, no World of Warcraft, no Crysis... You get the picture?

If you don't wanna play Terraria, don't buy it. Simple really, vote with your cash. Myself, I love Minecraft so to get my hands on something in a simliar style like Terraria, GREAT!

niroe said it Minecraft was in fact based on or a "stolen" idea from said game.

So no one is perfect.

If you can make money do so lets be honest here OP if you had the skill (you may I dont know you) to make a game like Terraira/Minecraft and earn thousands I and was told it would sell etc you would not because it is the same as the other games?.

Some how I think you would.

Although it shares lots of core concepts with MC it's a very different game.

And, as has been stated, it's not like MC was that original an idea anyhow...

There's not really any need for the kind of comments you're making about Ewaf there :/

Also, try playing the game before judging it so completely. I thought it had a lot more in common with minecraft until I played it.

Who cares?
This game is better than minecraft imo, and there are distinct differences:
In minecraft your main objective is to build a shelter, collect resources and craft, making whatever you like in 3D
In Terraria your main objective is to built a shelter, collect resources, craft, kill bosses and get better loot to kill even bigger bosses, in 2D.

Terraria has more of an RPG element, where as minecraft is just a massive sandbox.

I said it was a rip-off too before I tried it, because I was being ignorant like you, OP. But I took the time to explore the game for myself to try and validate my thoughts on it, and I was proven completely wrong from first hand experience. Maybe if you took the time to play the game yourself you could form a valid opinion of it instead of looking like a frothing neckbeard who rages over a game you didn't even make.

If you think collecting resources and crafting are new, you need to open your eyes, because if I say about those 2 sole aspects of minecraft I could say it rips-off so many games, without looking at what other things the game offers.

LOL
As people have said already, Minecraft wasn't the first of it's kind either.

Completely unnecessary rant about a game that could be good. You should be happy that others are trying to add to the genre.

Edit: Just reading the last post from the OP... It's clear to see he should be in a special hospital, away from computers. Grow up.
