Britain out of Ireland!

I agree with that, a single British Football Association with a single group of affiliated leagues and a single Great Britain International Squad would indeed solve many issues, least of all the issue of competing in the Olympics.

Until then, Celtic remain a Scottish club...:p

Also a British football team would have a better chance of winning something, A British team at the moment would probably only have one welsh and two Scots in it but with Gordon, Fletcher and Bale it would probably be enough to turn the rest of the English players into a world cup winning team.

True, but if it gets this heated over a discussion about a football club the original topic is probably best avoided :D

I don't think this is particularly heated, not from my end of things anyway. I regard this thread as some light-hearted discussion on the nature of how we perceive certain things, like football clubs.

I don't actually think there is any definitive right answer to be honest, but I'm having fun arguing a specific position anyway.

Is that not what debate is about?

Not to mention that doyen of left-sided midfield genius Ryan Giggs....although his contribution would have been more valuable in his heyday granted.

There is a definitive answer. Celtic are BOTH a Scottish and a British football team.

You have yet to definitively prove that. So far it is only your opinion nothing more.

What, prove that they are located in Britain?

I have given you a definition of British and you have been unable to demonstrate how that does not apply in this case.

And largely unsupported opinion? Where FIFA, the BBC and the SFA not notable enough for you?

Again

Brit·ish
[brit-ish] Show IPA
–adjective
1.
of or pertaining to Great Britain or its inhabitants.
2.
used especially by natives or inhabitants of Great Britain: In this dictionary, “Brit.” is an abbreviation for “British usage.”

Show me how that does not apply?

I have amply demonstrated why Celtic should be referred to as a Scottish rather than a British Club, including refuting how you applied the dictionary definition.

I suggest you reread the thread.

Serious question, do you suffer from Aspergers syndrome or anything similar?

And no, you have not refuted the dictionary definition.

So I see you resort to personal insults once again.

I did refute your application of the definition, if you read the thread you will see quite clearly where I did so:

to quote:

It doesn't apply because the respective Football leagues do not pertain to Britain, but to the respective countries of the Union and their specific peoples, as in Scottish, English and Welsh, rather than British.

So please refrain from making further insulting remarks regarding me personally, it is not necessary and this is only a light hearted discussion so please treat it as such.

It wasn't an insult. You are demonstrating traits consistent with someone suffering from aspergers syndrome. I was trying to determine whether to back off or not.

Your attempt to refute the dictionary definition is also without substance.

Let me put it like this. The english language does not fall under the jurisdiction of FIFA, the FA or the SFA.

Are you a trained clinician? Do you have the required expertise to decide what constitutes traits consistent with Aspergers, or is the truth that you were yet again attempting to insult surreptitiously as you did in an early post when you inferred I was an idiot.

It is not big, and it is not clever, so please refrain from doing so.

As for your reply to the refutation, I feel the need to do the ironing....;)

No one said it did, however the official recognition of the nationality of Celtic Football Club does.

No, I am not a clinician but a member of my family does have Aspergers syndrome.
