I use both Gmail and Hotmail and tbh hotmail is streets ahead of where it once was. For day to day use I'd be hard pushed to choose one over the other. the one exception being Gmails superior support of IMAP vs Hotmail POP3.

The days of "pros" using Gmail and noobs using Hotmail has long gone.

One of the handy things I've found with hotmail is the ability to create 5 "disposable" email addresses that map to your main account. Create [email protected] addy from your mailbox, use it to register at the insurance comparison site (for example), get your quotes into your main inbox and then bin the addy before the spam hits.

I suppose you could just create fresh new email addresses and kill them off but this keep the mail in one place.

Both are good services though.

strange, on friday a woman at work mentioned her hotmail and facebook was hacked on wednesday. Over the weekend 2 friends mentioned that their hotmail accounts had also been hacked

Think there might have been a mass hack last week or something

Ive had my hotmail hacked before due to a keylogger ending up on my machine somehow.
I ended up doing a full windows fresh install just incase there were anymore nasties on my machine.

When my hotmail had it's password changed Microsoft support were on the ball and they were helping me get my account back within minutes.

With Google I wouldn't really hold much hope to get the account back ever.
