I've just installed an SSD (Vertex 2E) and installed Windows etc to it. Loving the speed and the silence, but only getting 6.9 in WEI. Is this normal? Whats an easy way to check if I'm getting the speed I paid for?

Are you using IDE or ACHI mode?

IDE is normally lower.

As for benchmarking your drive with software this should be used sparingly and only to check if all is working ok as these programmes will write a considerable amount of un-compressible data to your SSD

You can use program called AS-SSD to benchmark to check the speed and the alignment/offset has been setup correctly should be green

WEI score is not important, but I get 7.5 on my SSD
