The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Hey I'm loving playing EVE at the moment. I have a Hulk and a Mackinaw on my Main, and I just got an Alt account when the steam deal was going to start another character skill training alongside my main. He currently has a Badger MK II to help me haul if and when I'm solo mining, which to be honest isn't very often (corp ops).

I am, however, entirely used to playing games with the Main character tunnel vision, and I generally hate having an alt because I feel like I am spreading out my time and effort.

Does anyone have any advice about alt accounts in EVE? I'm starting to think I will just ditch my second account (only 800,000SP now) and just focus on one main charcater that does everything. However, when I think how having two accounts and 2 characters could halve my skill training time (i.e. dedicate one as pure Industry/Science and one as Pure Combat/Exploration) it gets me really worked up!

Just don't know how to advance. I log on my alt to start a skill training, like working towards a Charon, and I think: "Man, I wish I was training this on my main".

Hulk and Mackinaw on your main you say, sure i'll help what's your pilot name? Muwahaaa.:D

Alt's save live's FACT!

Ideally you want both accounts running at the same time so you can see what's going on in two systems when camping/roaming/mining/hauling, paranoia is your best friend in EVE. Also if you get deeper into EVE you will kick yourself for not starting alt's sooner.

However you sound more like a carebea.....err industry guy. It really depends how far you wana go, i'd go amarr with the industry alt cuz of the Impel & providence sorta the best & coolest hauling ships, JF's are a long way off for you.

If you decide not to use alts and do a jack of all trades with one account then GL my friend you will struggle at most things until you specialize.

be afraid & fly safe.

Anyone taking part in the Northern Coalition conflicts? Some great stuff going on in the north.

No but saw some of the intel last night :D

"91 Avatars!"

"ninety... one... avatars?!?!"

"oh sorry no meant 91 abaddons"

(there was still 70+ supers/titans in that fleet tho including 8 avatars).

Also saw a screenshot of DRF/PL cap fleet the other day - 4 full screen heights of dscan with well over 30 - possibly getting on for 100 - aeons alone.

Yeah I use my alt for scouting, fleet boosting, its all trained up on starbase defence and other logistic/support functions. A boosting alt in a T3 gives you masssssive bonuses (even if your just mining) - tho I hear they are nerfing unprobable T3s.

Its a lot of fun up in Cloud Ring / Tribute for sure, wish I could log in for all the ops. =/

Think it would be too laggy for my tastes, that and it gets a bit boring when you have 50+ hellcats on one side and 100 drakes on the other.

weeee... 2nd reserve for alliance tournament :p anyone else involved?

Nice man. Ingame name? Will keep an eye out for you.

I read this too. Won't be subbing my constantly now.

We were thinking about entering alliance tournie this time, but the logistics of it were prohibitive at this point in terms of both ISK and commitment, we prolly could have put up the ISK but have been pushed for active numbers actually making the fights even collaborating with another pretty dedicated corp.

Sigh...when will I learn, lost my second Badger II with 3 x Expanded Cargohold II's in the same system in a week...both times thought I could zip in and out undetected. First time I got 2 shot killed as I left the station, this time I got scrambled as I aligned at the gate passing through, funniest thing, I also have a standard "cheapo" Badger for smaller loads but I was just too lazy to switch ships before this run. Good thing is that this time my cargo was empty, last time I had about 12k m3 of zydrine *cries

In my defence, i've been in and out of that same system about 10 times over the last few days, luck can't hold out forever though...ah well, lesson learnt :D

Oh yeah...what's the point in insurance, doesn't even cover the value of the ship, let alone fittings :(

To prevent people suiciding unfitted ships to collect the insurance. Platinum Insurance should cover most of the cost of the hull, not modules and rigs though. Probably best to avoid taking unscouted indy ships into lowsec until you can fly the T2 cloaky haulers, and keep the value of your cargo low in hisec unless you're flying a tough ship (orca, freighter, battleship etc)

Yup, I know I was pushing my luck, i'd had a load of easy runs in the system despite a few red ships being in my vicinity and not bothering me. It's only a 0.4 system next to a 0.9 but i've just found out there are a pure pirating corp in the same system, MOD - Ministry of Death or something like that.

I'm away for 12 days now and will be training my Caldari Industrial V, then a few more days when i'm back and i'll have my Crane:D
