Hi,

I going to purchase a new monitor next week and was wondering what the thoughts are on the two Dells.

The U2711 is the bigger monitor but at the higher resolution would the text be too small?

Which one would you recommend?

Depends what too small is? I guess only you can make that decision.
However ill put in a vote for the U2711.
The higher res is so much nicer to have. It makes my pictures look nicer. It also allows me to have two web pages open side by side and still be able to see the full horizontal of each. On my 24 inch monitor the 1200 pixels isnt quite enough.
Games also look a lot better but needs a lot of gpu power to push at nice frames on latest games.
Overall the U2711 is the nicest monitor i have ever used (shame it cant do 120hz aswell).

Phil.

would always go for bigger screen and higher res

im also in the market for a new monitor and it will def be a 27" (not smaller)

I went for the 24" U2410

I did think about getting the 27" U2711 but i reckon the 24" is about the perfect size and res....
And the U2410 also has lower input lag which makes it much better for gaming..

I have both side by side, if money is irrelevant then the u2711, biggest benefit is pixel density, its not much bigger in physical dimensions, and if you play games you may need more gfx power lol cause of the resolution..I did

Could you take a photo of them side by side? I've got 2x U2410s and was thinking about getting a 2711 for the centre for eyefinity gaming but I'd like to see how they look.

I have the U2711 set to native next to an older HP2207 in portrait mode - I also have a 2009 iMac sitting next to those (older 1920x1200 screen).

I struggle to read small text on the Dell and have adjusted my DPI to reflect this - I usually drag web pages into the portrait HP monitor for anything intense.

The resolution on the Dell is fantastic, and the AG coating (in my opinion) is better than the Mac for photography if you intend to print anything - but I wouldn't recommend it for web surfing or word processing.

That is what worries me about the 27" Dell - and why I have decided to go for the 24".

I'm a computer programmer so reading text for long period of time will be one of my uses.

I've tried setting it to 1920 x 1080 - which is an improvement for text, but that defeats the object of such a powerful screen.

There are a couple of firefox addons that remember the zoom settings for individual sites - however, zooming the text can sometimes make the rest of the page render weirdly (this site for instance - if you have stuff in your shopping cart)

Also, text on some apps appears very small - even on the "large" setting the Photoshop UI still appears tiny.

I already have my Windows text set to 144dpi

I ordered the u2410 yesterday and it arrived today.

Unfortunately, it seems like it's a return as the seal of the box has been broken on one side and the important documents bag on the box has been ripped and there are no documents.

It should not be like this, should it?
