What things do you hate about games?

Games that have a very limited experience, cod is the one im looking at most.

Its a bit dull that you see all the good bits of the game once you've "prestiged" but there is clearly no incentive to do it another 14 times as your supposed to... There just doesnt seem any fun or achievement in it.

Repetition. Any game that you pretty much have to grind your way through a few hours gets dull, gt5 is the most recent example of a game that never had this till this time round round for NO GOOD REASON :(

Most games these days seem to lack decent writing too, iv dug out broken sword and a few other games like that to really enjoy the story line. Even Pharaoh on the pc had a decent story line and that was a city builder.

Cut-scenes which you can't skip. I don't care about the story I just want to shoot stuff so just let me get on with it please. These are especially bad when they precede a battle and there is no checkpoint in between so if you die then you have to watch it again... and again...

Needless hand holding and sign posting. As much as I liked Uncharted 2, I never felt challenged, or that I was ever in any peril, or that I was discovering or exploring anything. The game wraps you up in safety and tenderly leads you from screen to screen, with little chance of dying or getting lost, and no penalty if you did. That's why Demon's Souls was so refreshing - it took us back to when it was up to the player to work things out and was all the more satisfying for it.

Any fps with ironsights.

and the what you hate thread comes around again.

1. Milked franchises, the poor cows (games) let them get some rest.. CoD I'm looking at you.

2. Unskippable cutscenes in conjunction with repeatiing sections: When you are constantly repeating a section whether it be every 5, 10, or 30 minutes, you don't want to watch the same cutscene again. Seriously i've already seen this part of the story, i know what happens, you don't have to tell me. I don't want to watch the flashy intro of (insert random) boss character again. Especially when said boss character has just beat me to a pulp for the past hour, rageeee.

3. Repeating unnecessary sections after dying: Same as above really, when you die and it respawns you back at the start of a really long path or something. Can't you put the save point closer? Tales of Vesperia is a good example, before the final boss there is a massive staircase, and the save point you start at is at the bottom..rargghh. Why couldn't it be at the top?

4. being lazy and making areas look different by repetition: Wow is a good example of this, repeating the same textures, geometry and particle effects over and over again, but varying them every so slightly to make them look different. Can't you make some more effort. I know it's a practical approach, with limited resources and time but it looks lazy and dull.

5. Loading Screens with no progress indicator. Nobody actually likes loading screens, but the least you can do is tell us how long we have left before the level/area loads.

6. 'Hard' difficulties that are a chore to play. Modern Warfare and Halo are massive culprits for this.

Move forwards slowly ---> Take Cover ---> Move out of cover an inch ---.> Pick off enemies slowly ---> get hit by one random bullet/lazer blast/magical squirrel missile ----> death ---> repeat cycle.

This is not fun, this is not challenging, and it certainly isn't difficult. It's just a pain and a chore to get through.

7. Repetitive questing thats disguised by flashy interfaces and actions to make them look interesting. The Mako exploration and Planet Scanning sectiosns in Mass effect 1 & 2 are the main culprits, also any MMO in existence. it's lazy, it padds out the game with minimum effort, but it doesn't actually make it fun.

I'm sure there are more points, but thats all that i can think of for the moment.

I almost forgot Multi-player achievements! The only reason I didn't get the full 1000 in Assassins Creed Brotherhood is because I refused to play some crappy tacked on MP.

Also adding achievements with DLC gets on my nerves too, which is why I don't really bother trying to get those last few points anymore

Games that have invisible walls / clipping.
It drives me mad.

Take for example a recent release - Bulletstorm. Lots of areas with big drops, ledges, stairs, windows etc. Can you jump or fall off these......NO. Why? I dont know but it narks me off royally. Something so simple and obvious if you ask me. Granted Bulletstorm isnt a 'realistic' shooter but come on, if I want to fall off a shear ledge to my doom then I should be able to.

In recent years all these 'hold your hand', 'lead the donkey with a carrot', 'corridor' games have just got boring. What happened to the freedom you had in Crysis, Far Cry, Just Cause 2 etc? Just look at the difference between Crysis 1 and 2!

For me it has to be pointless achievements. Fallout is a good example - get to level x with good, neutral, bad karma. That to me is just very lazy implementation of achievements. I could probably think of more, but that is the first that springs to mind.

I also cannot stand the cliched representation of women in games. Why do they nearly always need to be scantily clad with enormous breasts?

I also don't like tacked on MP in games that don't need it. Saying that though both Bioshock 2 and ACB were excellent fun for me. I loved brotherhood, the trouble though with it and Bio 2 was the P2P lag.

I would rather though they stuck to making better SP games.

That's a brilliant one! Does nothing for the image of video gaming and those who play/make or enjoy them too! Reinforces silly stereo types about hopeless nerds who sit indoors all day...

Boss fights, platform jumpy games, driving where the handlings terrible, La Noire im looking at you, re spawning enemies, fiddly control system.

i hate the fact that 99% of awesome games have an ending, or the devs dont carry on with it in the direction your hoping for

Or on a lighter-hearted note: When you hear "I just need a minute to open this door. Can you hold them off untill then?"

That's especially annoying when you've got enough weaponry to attack a country. Or when you've got a ton of C4 on you:mad:

Cheap bosses wind me up. Ones that either heal themselves after you've kicked the crap out of them for 10 minutes,or ones that have an uber move that kills you instantly.

Unskippable cut scenes annoy me as well.

Invisible walls. You know where to go,you can see how to get there, but the game won't allow you to go that way

I think the Extra Credits guys over at The Escapist did a video on women in video games, or some such. Kind of hits the nail on the head with the whole issues. All the jiggly breasted stereotypes just make video games look immature and childish.

- Games that make you work hours for something, like a weapon, and then make them obsolete with a new patch or update. Cough WoW Cough.

- Times when you need to level grind to stand a chance of progiressing. You're immersed in an rpg, progressing at a nice place and then BAM you hit a brick wall in the form of an area or boss thats much harder than anything you've previously fought. You try to fight, but alas you're level is suddenly to low beat the enemies or boss of said area. You then need to grind to level up, unfortunately there are no efficient areas for exp gained over time. You end up spending several hours to get to the level you need to before you stand a chance of a rematch. Very very annoying, and boring.

- Pointless accessories and content. I don't care about Mii's or Avatars. I don't care about pointless accessories for your character in games. Why do i want to make my character wear a hat in Tales of Vesperia? There was nothng wrong with the original look of the character!. I'd rather the developers spend their time making proper in-game content.

- Kill/find x number of monster or item quests/delivery from a to b quests/.

Lazy design, thats all there is to it. Boring.

- Games where you can purchase property, the Fable and Assasin's Creed games are massive culprits. You can get by fine without buying every dingy property in Bowerstone, or every building in Rome.

- Marriage & Kids and Reputation etc. - Whats the point in getting a certain Faction to like me, will it really help me? Will marrying an npc in Fable give me extra powers? Will having a child give me +100 Willpower? No?! Then i'm not interested!.

If i wanted to play fictional families, i'd go and play The Sims...

(And then i'd gouge my eyes out after 5 minutes).

Or on a lighter-hearted note: When you hear "I just need a minute to open this door. Can you hold them off untill then?"

I don't think the alternative would work.

" I'm about to try and open this door!"

"But just so you know, and by a complete coincidence a stream of enemies will spawn and attack as soon as i try to pry this randomly locked door open""

"Actually i wish i could say it's a coincidence, but as you're painfully aware, it's already happened four times in the last hour."

"You need to kill them all before the magical level design fairy will actually allow me to open the door, Ok? Let's go!.

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it. :p

Autosave that saves when you're about to die. The pre-modern warfare COD was always a classic for this, usually dying either right before you got shot, or with a grenade at your feet, meaning when you restarted you had to figure out that you had to jam the stick down to 7 o'clock and jump after half a second to avoid insta-death.

Bugs that lock the entire rest of the game. I still remember how annoyed I was when I was about a third of the way through Oblivion IV: Elder Scrolls and couldn't pick up some necklace from the bottom of a well because the dead character wearing it was floating down too low underwater. The only workaround due to the bug was to grind out loads of skill points to get some walking underwater perk and by the time I'd done that I just didn't care about the game any more. Which is a shame, as I'd really gotten sucked into it pretty deeply.

Just going to expand on an earlier post I made about save points (think I posted it from my phone so kept it quick)

You manage to scrape through a difficult part of the game, you enter and lock a door. Autosave! Phew! that was close but great, I don't have to see that part of the game again (ever think that?:o)

Then you walk along a long corridor. You find one of those secret items, then after more walking, you find a large ammo stash. Great! then after more walking, you find that 3-way mega assault rifle you have been looking for so you pick that up, open you console/inventory, equip 3WMA-rifle and then find yourself up against a boss. You die but it's OK, you reached the auto-save. Then you have to:

but then the boss kills you again so you have to:

Extra strong buildings that after being hit with multiple tanks shells still look brand new. At the very least, it should it should open up a few more holes to camp from.

Game that continue to massively hint/tell you what you should be doing. i.e. first few levels of being showing what to do/press/look out for....and yet hours later in the game it's still doing it. Nothing is left for me to work out, just follow the brightly lit pointers!
