i bought a vertex 60gb the other day (epic tuesday) for an amd build that i am planning

i bought a cheap Asus M4A78LT-M LE board and was going to put a cheap phenom II for the time being until bulldozer came out and i was going to get a new mobo + cpu

BUT now i read that TRIM support isnt available on AMD boards :confused:

i am now very confused and dont know what to do...

It's my understanding that for TRIM to work you just need to be running Windows 7 and a SSD which supports it. Can anyone else confirm this?

TRIM is part of the SATA specification and so should work on any SATA controller on any motherboard. The three ingredients you need are:

- An OS that supports TRIM (Windows 7)
- SATA driver that supports TRIM (the latest Intel RST drivers and MS drivers do, not sure about AMD's drivers so it's probably best to stick to default MS drivers)
- An SSD that supports TRIM (Vertex does but only with firmware 1.5 or 1.6)

Oh, and your SATA controller can't be in RAID mode. Use AHCI.

MS drivers are fine. Using controller-specific drivers squeezes that last bit out of the SSD's performance but is not essential by any means.
