So my trusty Onkyo tx-sr605 decided it didn't fancy outputting video via hdmi anymore so I'm in the market to get a good replacment without spending too much.

I'm happy to buy 2nd hand as I bought the Onkyo for £250 around 3 years ago and its more than catered for my needs. The only requirement I have is it needs to be able to upscale all sources and output via hdmi as I will have a Nintendo Wii connected as well as a htpc and xbox via hdmi.

Any suggestions are welcome :)

What's your budget?

Sometimes bargains can be had as the older models are cleared before a refresh.

I'd be comfy around the £300 mark- as long as I have upscaling to hdmi for analogue sources like the Wii and dolby dig hd/dts hd then I'm easy :D

I'd look at another Onkyo but would probably prefer another brand for changes sake :D

the new denons are coming out soon, and the price for the old ones have started to drop.

u could prolly pick up the 1911 for about £200 new
supports HDMI 1.4 and 3D

upscales all ports to 1080p out the HDMI output

that sounds great- I'm not sure but I think I saw that for sale at best buy for £230 ish but didnt take a punt as I was unsure of the spec but it sounds about right! Cheers :)

I have the 1911, cracking amp. Don't use any of the upscaling from the analogue ports so can't report back on that aspect. Sound and connection wise though gets two thumbs up from me.

just another question, are you able to re-name the inputs? ie call them htpc/xbox etc or is that a feature you have to pay more for! :)

should be able to

i dont have the 1911 thou, i have the 2311 that u can.

but my old 1907 could also rename them, so i dont see any reason the 1911 wouldn't be able to

I went for the Sony 810, although my dad has the Yamaha, i'd say you can't go wrong with either, upscalling is great on the sony (tested via a Wii) can't comment on the Yamaha as he's only got digital feeds.

Yes, definitely can rename all inputs on the denon, although you obviously cant change whats written on the remote ! ;)

wow thats a bit of a bargain- £200 and does all I need. This is gonna be a confusing morning!

Update!!!

Well went into richer sounds as they had a single denon avr 1911 in stock- however it was the demo unit and the staff had no idea where the accessories were so it was just the amp bubble wrapped in a generic box.

I then saw the yamaha 667 which was £100 more than the denon but the hype of the situation got to me so out came the cc :(

However I feel :D hope to get it setup later and enjoy sound again :)
