have phenom x4 840 and gigabyte m68mt s2 mobo everytime i put oc it it boots but resets cpu to stock speed help please

i think that if the overclock fails, it resets to stock speed

- try a lower overclock

- update bios?

- clear cmos

Where in the BIOS are you changing the FSB?

I'm just looking at the manual and can't even see an option to change it.

no when you press CTRL F1 it brings up advanced chipset settings and changed fsb to 205 booted fine but it had reset to default :/

Aaah.

Did you save the setting before exiting the BIOS?

yyh pressed F10 and put y in save to CMOS and exit iif i have halt on all errors except keyboard in cmos features it stops me everytime no matter what and tells me to rest if i put halt boot for nothing it boots but resets the OC its self :/

Possibly a 5MHz overclock is too much for it :eek:

You really need someone with this board to give you a hand.

You might benefit from a BIOS update. Be careful what one you install though; don't want to make things worse

What CPU cooler are you using? Your system might be lowering the speed because of high temperatures.

scythe andy samurai with black apache on it runs at 6 degress idle at stock speed at 20 degress gaming so dont think its that

All modern heat sinks come with a little gizmo that bleeds heat into the ether. You aren't seriously still running above ambient temperatures, are you?

I'm old fashioned that way.

I'll have to get one of those new fangled sub ambient temperature coolers.
