OCUK On radio?

I've always wondered if the name "Overclockers" might hinder the expansion of the business. I mean, most people don't know what overclocking is, but most people are nowadays prepared to buy computer kit online from competitors with more user-friendly names.

well its a more informative name then Google or Tesco, and everyone knows what they are

You make a very good point here and whilst the following anecdote bares little direct relevance I just wanted it out there to see if anyone else shares my incredulity.

The other day I was at home going through the Overclockers UK website with my husband and we were discussing and critiquing the site from a users perspective. Clicking around the website, he was astounded to find out that we sell overclocked machines.

The weird part is, he has built all of our home machines in the past and had shopped with Overclockers prior to me coming to work here! His not being able to figure out that Overclockers sell overclocked machines is surely like being unable to figure out that Burger King sell burgers?!!

My point is clearly he is an idiot, but I digress.

Having a brand name that 'does what it says on the tin' is always beneficial, not just from a branding point of view but from an online marketing and SEO perspective too. I think if we were called 'Computer Parts UK' or something equally as straight forward we would instantly broaden our appeal and would probably find it easier to compete but I think a larger part of the problem is we've done little in the way of raising brand awareness for some years which is I think a bigger challenge than our company name.

Today Signal One; tomorrow the world!!

Mwahahaha

I can't imagine the radio being very effective for a specialist business like Overclockers. It's hardly a one size fits all type of sector, for that you would go to an off the shelf retailer. The average person doesn't have the knowledge or inclination to build their computer themselves. It's like having to build your own car in the form of a Caterham kit car rather than visit your local dealer.

Our radio adverts focus on promoting the products we sell that have a very broad-range appeal and they do not focus on components or the niche aspects of the business.

We are never going to move away from this niche area, it's the core foundation the business was built upon BUT we also have a great range of mass market appeal products at very competitive prices and radio adverts or indeed any similar advertising activities to increase brand awareness will be beneficial longer-term in opening up a wider market to us :)

Did someone at HQ do the the advert or did you pay for voice talent?

Haven't heard it but I imagine it was like this...

Voiceover by Omid Djalli: "You want PC?! Overclockers have PCs! Buy PCs from Overclockers! You just want monitor? Overclockers have monitors! Buy!

I've heard the ad you're on about and am not entirely sure what relevance a darts player has in endorsing a solicitors, I find it more than a little perplexing it has to be said.

We paid for proper voice actors, production and everything!! :D

I hope not, that advert makes me wanna go down to Signal 1 and commit mass murder.

NOT LITERALLY, before I get hunted down by the 5-0.
