After a bit of quick advice!
I've recently registered a claim with my home insurer for accidental damage to my ipad (dropped, smashed screen, glass and casing). After faxing off receipts etc, the insurer has instructed a 3rd party to come and collect my ipad for inspection. In all honesty, I'd rather take the ipad to an Apple store for an estimate for reasons explained below, but in any case it quite clearly says on the insurers webpage that I am able to use my own supplier, but when calling them they state that I must use theirs which is a bit strange.
I googled the 3rd party they've appointed and they claim that they are able to use 'lower cost methods' to repair ipads/laptops etc rather than replacing them. I'm obviously not happy about this, as having a repair done by anyone other than apple or an approved repairer will invalidate my remaining 9 months of apple warranty - one of the best perks of owning apple kit is that if it goes wrong inside the warranty period, a quick trip to the local apple store and they'll usually replace it on the spot.
Anybody know where I stand on this?
