Roaccutane / accutane

Today is a very very significant day for me :)

I am very personal and insecure about pictures.

I think I will though. I won't post them on this thread but would consider sending you an e-mail with the pictures attached if you really wanted me to?

It's taken me 5 years to get this drug prescribed, the amount of rubbish I had to try before it is unbelievable...

I took Roaccutane when I was younger, didn't have severe acne by any means but the dermatologist said he wants to prevent any scarring from spots.

Also, to give you an idea of how powerful Roaccutane is, it's actually used as a form of chemotherapy for people with brain cancer and pancreatic cancer.

Well thats why i said maybe an update in 6 months, you dont have too :)

Just would give people some hope :)

No. The side affects really aren't worth it, I was reffered for roaccutine and refused it in the end. It really makes the scars from acne worse, my brothers took it and their scars are very prominent, more so than mine and I had acne long after theirs went. I think it causes photosensitivity too which is bad if you aren't too great at wearing sun cream.

right, as I previously mentioned - I was due to start my course of Roaccutane in December but didn't due to family problems etc. I'm going to start it tomorrow. I was prescribed 90mg per day and was just wondering how I should take this? Should I take 4x 20mg tablets throughout the day and then 1x 10mg tablet? Looking for general advice here, not medical advice :D

Not sure how any answer to that question wouldn't also be medical advice.

Just phone the secretary of the dermatologist who prescribed it to you and ask them to get back to you with the answer.

Ignore the haters, most generally suffer mild side effects if that. I only really got dry skin, but got into the habit of using moisturiser every day (still have to actually). Nivea cream is great.
Stick it out, you'll be grateful for it in the end!

I'm on 80mg a day, my lips are killing me! Carmex has been a god send.

I used Carmex as well, it was all that really worked. Any other moisturiser, even a cream given by the GP, was useless and in some cases made the dry skin even more irritable. Didn't use Carmex on just my lips but also skin near to my lips and it helped there as well.

Vaseline was crap. I was honestly better off not treating my lips/skin at all.

How would I go about getting referred to get put on this? I've had issues for the last 2 years that has made me rather depressed, having had a handful of friends who have taken this and had their issues resolved hasn't made me feel any better.
Cheers.
