HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Also, the keyboard looks exactly the same which is kind of disappointing. I thought 2.3 had a new better keyboard. Any reason I don't have it?

Only change I've noticed (although I do rock a lot of customisations so don't have much stock stuff) is the predictive suggestions on the keyboard are in a slightly larger (and thus more annoying) font.

Assuming your using the ROM that your DHD came with, it already has a non standard keyboard installed on it, that HTC package with it. Hence why you won't get a new look keyboard.

Any tips for improving battery life? I'm barely getting 12 hours any more.

Got wifi/GPS/blutooth/auto rotate all off. Using a static wallpaper, homescreen only has 4 widgets on it (Go Weather, Facebook, Minimalistic Text and Poweramp). Using Go Launcher, Widget Locker and 3G Watchdog as well.

Open programs have things like Beautiful Widgets open which I don't even use  Not sure if that makes a difference.

Firstly, install the things you don't use, no point in having them and as you have said, they might have an open process.

What ROM are you using, and what is your usage like? If you are barely using it, you either have something unnecessarily syncing itself very often, or something is draining your battery. Check your battery usage page to see if anything comes up.

Also, possibly HSDPA/3G is eating away your battery...I'd look into a 2G/3G switcher from the Market. I personally keep my phone on 2G when I'm not using it; having data sync isn't the drain issue, it's the fact that it is using 3G that is the problem. Switch to 2G, and it uses no more power than normal. I'd still do this even if I had massively amazing battery life; it's just a waste.

Thanks, not using a ROM, had a look into it but heard you can't do it on 2.3 atm.

Any recommendations for a 2g/3g switcher? Not really sure what I'm looking for.

Hi all,

Just got this phone today.

Ive linked my phone to Facebook to use the application and now annoyingly when I click 'Phone' it brings up my ENTIRE Facebook friends list that have added their number to Facebook. It's incredibly annoying and I didn't tick an option for it to do this and I can't find anywhere to stop it.

It's really annoying so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Actually, looking at it now, I'm not sure of you can toggle 2G and 3G in Sense. It isn't in the settings. Just search 2G toggle in the market and try a few in there :) As for rooting, you can do it with a goldcard, or there might be a way to do it without now, you'll might have to Google those :P

Bucket: Look for View, or something similar. You'll be able to turn off Facebook contacts, leaving just your phone/Google/SIM contacts with FB connections. Otherwise, FB app, then scroll to the bottom :)

Updated to Gingerbread a few weeks ago and noticed a few annoyances since.

- Contact pictures are massively pixelated when making/receiving a call. They used to be fine quality.
- I can't sync my contact card to my Facebook profile so I don't have a picture in any SMS threads etc
- I can't sync contact cards to Whatsapp, so again they don't have a picture despite their contact cards having their Facebook one
- When opening the dialler it doesn't display contacts behind/allow filtering until you type in a number and then delete it

Does anyone have any fixes? The pixelated Facebook picture when making and receiving calls is particularly annoying.

My pictures look fine now that FB for HTC is syncing. There will be a little Facebook symbol on the pictures if it is FB for HTC.

Does anyone's SD card keep randomly unexpectedly unmounting?

Try cleaning the SD card and make sure no dust is present around the SD card slot area & on the metal plated connectors on the SD card. Failing that, it sounds like your SD card may be faulty.

which rom is the best rom looks wise etc? im fed up of a standard htc android.

They're pretty much divided into Sense 2.1, Sense 3.0, MIUI, and stock AOSP ROMs. My advice would be to try the last of those, mainly CM7, and then download customisations to suit yourself :) Minimalistic Text, Simi Clock, Fancy Widget, are just a few. What I'd do, try a different launcher on your current installation (ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro, GoLauncherEX are the most popular), download some addons I mentioned above, see what you can make, and if you like it, save all those, then flash CM7. That way, you know what you are getting before you install.

MIUI is a full, new ROM of its own, what you see is really what you get. Take a look, if you like it, go for it. Not as fast as AOSP ROMs, but close. And obviously, a million times faster than Sense.
