Trainers for an interview?

I would have thought smart casual would be more appropriate in which case I would wear Loafers or something similar.

You can never go wrong with a suit when going to an interview whereas you could go wrong if you turn up in casual wear.

Wear a suit you bum!

most interviews dont warrant a suit , smart casual or you look like a twit imo for most jobs.

half the people on here who have to ask are only wanting part time bar work etc to earn some money while they are at college/uni

they do not need a suit for a checkout job or barwork...

LOL ROFTL

Total tosh. Better to risk looking like a twit than to risk not getting the job.

When I were a 16 year lad I went for a group interview at WHSmith, I was the only one to wear a full on suit (thanks to my older sister). I was also the only one hired on the spot, the other useful candidates were asked back for a second interview before being offered employment.

If it's a web design job then it won't be as formal. I think a suit is a bit overkill in this instance.

I would wear proper shoes, take a man bag with trainers in if you want. But I would not want someone to come for an interview in jeans and trainers, would not send the right message at all.

If the interview is for a deckhand & the bar is a Gay bar then Yes wear them.

Exactly, been to a few before, wearing a shirt and tie as im at work after in a bar, but them black trainers are not exactly scruffy.

Shirt and tie is good, dunno why I kept saying suit. They aren't scruffy but pretty casual and probably looks pretty gay with a shirt and tie :p

No, they don't need a suit but they do need to make a good first impression and wearing a suit shows that you respect the interview and company. I would NEVER no matter what job it was, not wear a suit. You can get away with shirt, tie, trousers and shoes but that is it. Anything else and I'd be ashamed of myself.

I had an interview for my old job a month ago and even though I knew who would be interviewing me and that the company lets me wear t-shirt and jeans to work, I went in a suit so should everyone else.
