Trainers for an interview?

Exactly, been to a few before, wearing a shirt and tie as im at work after in a bar, but them black trainers are not exactly scruffy.

But they are TRAINERS. If I was interviewing someone I wouldn't be happy if someone came in wearing trainers. It just screams to me 'too lazy to bother wearing shoes for 1 hour'.

they do not need a suit for a checkout job or barwork...

Why not? Just because it's not necessarily a high ranking job doesn't mean you shouldn't put effort into the interview and try to make a good impression. It's also entirely dependent on the interviewer, as they will have their own ideas as to what is needed to make a good impression.

I've been meaning to ask this, but thought I'd ask in this one instead of making a new thread.

I've got a college interview on Monday, how should I go dressed? I'm thinking just black trousers, shoes and a shirt. Not sure what sort of style to go for, something plain maybe?

Should I wear a jacket and tie or is this to overkill for a college interview?

Cheers

I would agree. An interviwer isnt going to discount you for making an effort to look smart aslthough turning up like worzel gummidge might well just put them off you!

most interviews dont warrant a suit , smart casual or you look like a twit imo for most jobs.

half the people on here who have to ask are only wanting part time bar work etc to earn some money while they are at college/uni

they do not need a suit for a checkout job or barwork...

the job was web design?

Overkill, overkill.
It was more, what subjects are you going to do. The only reason why anyone would not get into college on interview day is probably turning up completely stoned or drugged up.

Rubbish. I've turned up for an interview for a christmas temp job at a large chain toy store in a suit. I got the job, the others in less formal wear didn't. Same with jobs when I was at school.

Just beause it's a part time/rubbish job doesn't mean you don't go in a suit.

No, suit up. At the very least a shirt & tie or just a shirt if you are unfortunate enough not to own a tie. Smart trousers and some loafers.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite in that to my current job I turned up in jeans, a t-shirt, pumps & shades. It was a temping job and I had checked before hand if I needed to dress up and they said they were happy for me to come down casual, so I did. Went full time 2 months later and been here since, almost a year now. :)
