Ouch, how terminal is it? :(

Currently 2-1 in my placement matches, lots of carriers seem to do very well, but cloaked banshee harass is my downfall, I use all my observers agressively, so they're miles away when my mineral line starts getting hit :(

You should watch your own replays and find out how you could have scouted it and reacted better :)

Banshee's always get me aswell to be fair!

If you feel this happens a lot, suggestion could be to as soon as you scout a starport with a tech lab or the banshee itself to put 1 cannon in each mineral line and a few stalkers, that will detect and repel most banshee attacks, you can also keep a defensive observer and 1 attacking observer. I'm a terran player so I can only suggest from the other side :P

Hey, after not playing for around 2 weeks, I've been losing 90% of games. I've attached a replay, and it would be really great and helpful if some of you higher level guys give me some advice on what to improve/what I'm doing wrong and my army composition etc.
And some epic micro messing up, I know but even when I don't mess up my micro, i lose :)

Platinum league btw

In that game, your macro is why you lost. Problem was the whole game you only had 3 Gateways, a Robo and all these minerals stock piling (I think you got 2nd gas a bit too early too).

What you gotta remember is how many Gateways/Robo you can support per base, when you get your 2nd base immediatley throw down another 3 Gateways (it's ok to stop unit production for this moment, assuming you don't see a push coming) or 2 Gateways and another Robo depending on what your gameplan is - make your goal to always keep your money low on units/expansions/upgrades.

Exams nearly over, and really want to get back into this game as i'm raging at HoN far too much to have it as my main game at the moment.

Could anyone be so kind as to link me to some guides, i'd mainly like to play Toss or Zerg tbh, i'm slightly knowledgable about Toss from watching and understanding the units, zerg is probably my weakest race.

I was only like rank 10 or w,e in bronze league, but i did quit a month or two after the game was out due to WoW, so please any tips would be much appreciated.

you just gotta play dude, your at an extrememly basic level so playing and watching youtube stuff will help the most.
not much point us giving many tips to be honest - just decide on a basic build and keep on doing it match after match.

Pick a side you think you'd enjoy the most, once you pick you shouldn't change because if you don't know every hotkey, and get used to the basic builds then you wont go far.

http://blip.tv/day9tv Check out Newbie Tuesdays especially, he has very good philosophy on the game

Watch replays of all the games you play, I learnt so much in the early stages from that, purely from seeing what other people did or what mistakes you make that will seem obvious.

Search around Youtube and start watching casts/tutorials. I personally like AskJoshy, PsyStarcraft.

All fixed now, was only deionized so no biggie :)

I'm heading on now, so give me a shout if you want a game,

Well, I got placed into the silver league, so I don't feel totally rubbish XD 2-3 in the tryouts (One of those was due to them sticking proxy pylons down, found one but not the second D: ) and got pasted in my first league game. Need to get more unit producing structures earlier, often finding I get attacked and can't get enough units out to deal with it. My initial build order I'm fairly happy with, all pretty notmal, not missing probes, etc. And I almost always early expand as a way to deal with all the minerals I can't spend fast enough XD

I need to do the challenges though, I'm not super clued up on what I should use to 'counter' what. For massed marines, I'm guessing sentry for the shield and zealots?

Mass marines mid/late game, the only thing that really works is collosus (with an army as well). Early on, zealots with stalkers do ok, but once they start getting a decent number, you need collossus to deal the splash damage. High templar with psi storm can also work, but are a lot more difficult to fit into a build order until late game (as you kind of want the robotics bay for observers anyway). Charge zealots are good as well as the meat of the army to absorb damage and act as a wall for your collosus

just had a 2v2 match and the other side said we were cheating cause we found his expansion , as i said i have not played it online since the last reset and this match was a placement match we won . a first for me this time around to be on the winning side lol

Can't check the replay at the moment, but looks like its already been commented on. Might be worth putting another 2-3 on here. Be happy to take a look at them :)

Silver is pretty good if you've not played ladder before now. Expect a lot of cheese strats coming your way though in this league, and probably Gold when you move up too. then in Platinum watch out for all ins :)

Mass Marines depends at what stage in the game. I'm no toss player but i tend to go Stalker early game against a pure marine build and just micro them a little bit. Sentry shield helps loads too... Zealots get eaten up as they can be kited though.

Mid/Late game you really wan't to be looking more towards going colossus or High Templars for their PSI Storm. because once Marines reach a critical mass then not much can actually stop them other than splash damage.

I'd recommend doing those challenges though, their really good to get your basic unit control down, and they can get quite tricky :)

Its always so SO nice to be accused of cheating.. means you must be doing something pro ;)

i need to work on my macro etc , tip's please ;)

practice :o

Or more helpfully, hotkeys and practice. :p

At the end of the day, that's the only real way. Just focus on a specific area where you need to improve and really try to work on it in your games. I assume you're happy with the 'building workers, building units, not getting supply blocked' business, so really it's just practice from there. As you get more confident, you'll start playing faster, increasing your apm naturally thus letting you do everything you need to.

Did I mention practice?

I'll be online tonight around 1800. We can play some practice games and try to focus down on macro if you like :)

(been assuming everyone has me added lately :o VoidPtr.167 if needed)
