joke made by my examinations officer today....

If anyone cared to take it that far then she might be in some sort of trouble - I'd suspect a reprimand and being asked to take a diversity awareness course although I don't know fully what the situation is in employment terms for invigilators.

Maybe it's one of those things where being there made it funnier, any sort of joke or even just a slightly inappropriate comment in an exam hall is liable to seem a whole lot more humourous as it breaks the tension.

Pretty much this.

On paper this is worse than it is in the moment I guess. I see the joke, but i don't find it funny. Though not offended enough to make an complaint.

i could see the funny side. however, it's not something i'd expect to hear from an examinations officer and i would imagine she is worried about it and someone will say something about it and maybe rightly so.

I despise the ridiculous OTT political correctness in this country which we are no less than slaves to. But that comment clearly wasn't just non-pc, it was blatant racism.

It just means she's watched lots of 60s, 70s & 80s sitcoms where that 'joke' was used at least once.
No doubt The Two Ronnie's and Morcambe & Wise did the sketch too.

I wouldn't say racist. Could have been considered offensive, but the Asians present in the room were okay with it. Certainly the wrong time and place though!

Anyone else disappointed that the OP was about taking GCSE/A-Level exams rather than a doctor saying something witty shortly before checking his prostate? Coz that woulda been funny..

1. Why would a doctor be called an exams officer
2. Why would a doctor randomly read out chinese names? :p

The OP said Examinations Officer which if you were a bit mad and only read the first sentence could be another name for a Doctor doing an examination on a person.

The OP failed when he didn't start his thread with:
"I'm not a racist but .............."

It was funny. Why anyone would get offended is beyond me. I always have the **** taken out of me about being Indian. I only get offended if it isn't meant as a joke or if it done by someone I hate.
