height wise the cooler i am about to buy should fit in my case with 1mm to spare, but ive just had a thought - will it hit my PSU?

the cooler is the zalman CNPS9900 MAX (blue LED). the PSU is at the top of the case, about 1cm above my motherboard

rig is in my sig

*edit*
is it possible to mount it so it is pulling air up from the bottom of the case to the top if it doesnt fit going acrosswards?

it wouldnt be ideal, but it would be better than the crappy AMD stock cooler

i was about to say 'my cooler is a prime candidate for overhanging the mobo', but then i realised that the 135mm fan is just as wide as the cooler, so as long as theres 6.75cm between the center of the standard cooler's fan and the PSU, i should be fine

Sure you should be fine, my CNPS9900 MAX comfortably sits within the shape of my motherboard with room to spare, so as long as your PSU doesn't overhang your motherboard, it should be fine. I know it's a completely different board to yours (P8P67 Pro) but they wouldn't put the CPU socket that close to the edge of your board would they?

There's a couple of pictures of the cooler installed in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18274849 to show the clearance to the edge of the board itself.

i would say its quite a bit closer to the edge of the motherboard than the one you linked because i dont have a massive heatsink between the edge of the mobo and the processor, but that thread does fill me with confidence having seen the big gap between the mobo edge and cooler edge

heres a comparison picture of the motherboard i think the guy has (asus P8P67 pro) against my one:
(i resized the individual pictures to make sure the RAM slots and PCIe x16 slots were the same length in both)

pretty big difference, but i should be fine.

if the worst comes to the worst and it doesnt fit then its ~£5 to send it back, going by my recent DVD RMA

thanks for pointing the thread out to me :)

*edit*
this picture fills me with a lot more confidence

*2nd edit*
going by their review i can expect ~15C improvement under load
(similar performance to the coolermaster V8)

You're absolutely right that the motherboard is P8P67 Pro - the thread I linked is of my current PC, was just being lazy and couldn't be bothered to re-post the pictures. :)

Looking at mine straight on, the Zalman covers three out of the six fins on the blue heatsink between the CPU socket and the nearest edge, so the gap is 3 heatsink fins and the "Digi+ VRM" writing. From your composit picture (nice job, by the way) you should definitely not overhang the edge of your motherboard, and so clear your PSU.
