**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

losing lots of my ZvP to Mass void ray with 3 air attack : /

started baneling busting natural to slow them down but still comes down if i can get up my 3rd to get enough gas for hydra or corruptor or mix of the 2.

Im still in bronze but been playing vs some gold/silver players on ladder which might indicate i'll get promoted soon.

After initial 5 placement games i was palced in gold aswell, then long losing streak hapenned and i was bottom of my bronze league, now ranked 8ish :D

Playing mix of Spanishwa / mass crackling, zergling do pretty good vs protoss until they get colossus// loads of forcefields :P

I'll admit i have been erm.. 6 pooling few games cheesy hehe, normally in the game after i get cannon rushed or something :P

Been watching some live feeds from pro's.. low graphics quality settings look so erm.. weird :P

Another Zerg player :) \o/

Best thing to do is keep your scouting drone alive in his base for as long as you possibly can.. just keep him moving if he's been chased or keep him hidden. Failing that, its always worth suiciding an overlord into his base (where you think he might hide his tech buildings).. the 100 mineral/larva loss is worth knowing what he's doing.

My general build is to Fast Expand, regardless! These days both Protoss & Terran have the ability to do the same, and if you don't do it, either at around 13-14 pop, or at 20-21 pop then you'll be too far behind. ZvZ s a different ball game though.

So going with the fact that you have fast expanded, I normally just sit in my base after scouting VR's - For defense i tend to just mass up queens (4-5). They are shockingly powerful and will often just chase down VR's... not to mention you can use them to heal each other pread creep, along with defending ground at the same time. If they have gone for a lot of VR's then you will need to transition into Hydras. If they have gone for 1-2, you can get away with getting another expansion off, or by droning up REAL hard :)

Also.. everybody likes to 6 pool from time to time ;)

I'm Iviv 561 if anyone silver level wants to add me for some games! Had a good one with BJames yesterday where I got squashed by marines and vikings D:

my T v T officially sucks!!!!

Pretty much always get beaten - I really need to work on it. I guess I'm never sure whether to push fairly quickly to start with but if it gets held off, then I'm usually well behind, or if I sit back and macro I seem to get steam rolled at some point by the usual MMM ball with stim and upgrades.

I think I've started trying to many different, weird builds to see if they work. I think I should just go back to my "not very original" 3rax, factory, starport build that worked well in season 1.

Can you be Protoss in campaign? Because I need to learn about them before going online. :p

Zerg are just to compliacted idc about them :D

youv only just got the game, you need to slow down a bit.
yes you can be them in campaign for about 5 missions but you dont learn a lot.

you need to do the challenges first, then play loads of games with the computer then training stuff etc....stick to 1 race to start with. no point trying to learn 2/3 and effectively learn nothing deep about them in the process.

Think I want to be Protoss someone had this big mothership thing and it owned me looked really cool so going to try learn that. :)

+1 for recommending the challenges :) you really learn what all the units do there, with all their abilities etc..

Also, once you have done campaign and the challenges, take a trip online and then just spam the ladder.

My advice is to stick to one race that you like. experience will come.. but be patient because you will get frustrated :D

EDIT: Mothership is the collest looking unit in the game, but also its generally thought as the worst unit in the game due to its speed, cost and how easy it is to counter.

Nonsense, except for the stick to one race, which is really important early on, you will get bored out your mind doing all the challenges and then playing hundreds of custom games.

If you are completely to rts then yes probably it's a good idea, but if you have played a few then not much changes, use the 50 unranked games to learn a race, learn some tactics and get a decent knowledge of tech trees. At some point play some games as the other 2 races so you get an understanding of what all their structures do, its no good scouting a zergs's spire or a starport if you don't know what they produce, watch through some day 9 videos as you go, and look for some replays of pros of your race, look through them and pick up the little things that they do which get them up to the high level they play at.

You'll get better at the game by playing against other players and watching replays, beating medium ai wont help

hmm don't know, think you need to mix and match depending on what the individual feels comfortable with... I was lucky enough to have previous SC and BW experience, along with SCII BETA, so just jumped straight into ladder.

with Zero RTS experience i'd go with taking it slow, like Neo said.. but if you do have a little bit of RTS experience then I'd advise watching a few replays, maybe having one or two custom games just to learn what each building gives to the races. then jump straight into ladder.

Best way to learn is head first, my motto anyway :D

TvT is not my best match up too,it depends a lot on build orders. It's like rock paper scissors and which build order counters your opponents.I am experimenting with no gas 1 rax FE,into 3 rax+medis+updrades or no gas 1 rax FE into 1-1-1.They work pretty well.

If you go bio you have to be all over the map with drops, controlling the towers and catching your enemy's tanks out of position. You should also expand more than your opponent.

Another cool build is 1-1-1 with 1 gas, attack when you have 1 medivac,8 marines and 3 hellions. You can either drop the marines in the mineral line and at the sametime bring the hellions from his front door,or you can elevate marines+hellions in his base.If executed correctly with decent micro it can end the game or cause huge economic damage.Expand after your attack or add 2nd gas and go for banshees.

its not nonense at all, get wound up when people say that and I never said play 100s of cpu games.

The amount of idiots laddering at the moment is shocking, and hardly any of them have bothered to take the time to do a couple of challenges and play some vs comp to get the basics down.....the scene can not sustain this high level of stupidity.

it does not introduce new players to the game well and frankly im fed up of seeing the same post going up week after week on this and other forums about new players not understanding the very basics because some jocky has suggested they jump straight into mp and go watch day9 when they dont even know how to wall in, how much a marine costs, or what a tech lab is.

yeh amazing idea! congrats

I'm a fan of the 1-1-1 in TvT.. been a while since i played it though, or Terran in general for that matter! never really saw much evolution in TvT, always seems quite the same mid-late game. however after watching some MLG, some wonderful TvT played there :)

Thorzain was playing really well, it's great to be able to download the replays from MLG also so you can see how it's done.

If anyone wants to play me later to destroy me and maybe see what I am doing wrong.

Character Code : 130
Character Name : Murray

Yeah he was pretty awesome.. Can you get the replays off the MLG website or are they somewhere else? (can't check at work) I'd quite like to perfect the one base infestor (ZvZ). Used it several times already and im 3-1 with it. Seems to be working with very little practise right now. so perfecting it will probs sort out my ZvZ for a while. Quite fun as well.

Right I'm now gonna be out of action for a while... My motherboard just exploded :(:(:(

Ahh thats not good :( hope you can get it sorted soon!

I saw your other thread, that sucks man, my advice would keep an eye out for a cheap Gigabyte board. :)

All the replays are here:

I just downloaded all 1000+ replays as a single zip file using the link on the top right, that should keep me going for a while! ;)

Wow, so I didn't realise I was talking to some elitist clown, people do not need your personal approval to play sc2. The competitive scene wont change at all because of the quality of Bronze, I don't know what level you play at but up until plat/diamond the quality is a joke anyway.

You seem to have forgotten about those 50 practice games but from what I remember it was full of people who didnt wall in, expand, or understand basicmechanics of their race.

You seem to want people to suffer before they join the ladder, why should they? There are much more enjoyable ways to learn the game.
