Odd end to my night

Someone drove into the back of me whilst I was waiting to join a roundabout. She drove off. Some kids came over to us to see if we were OK. they managed to get part of the number plate and had already scribbled it down on some paper. We knew the make, model and colour of the car. From those details, the police narrowed it down to 47 cars in the country. Not surprisingly, only 1 of those matches was local and they caught her. From the bits of info the police told me, she was driving her friends car and wasn't insured on it but had her own car and insurance. I'm still not 100% sure which insurance paid up but one of them did.
 
When my car go ran into by a van the 1st thing I thought was how am I going to avoid this. In the end I mounted a curb and he removed my wing mirror. The last thing on my mind was what is his number plate.

I just wanted to avoid it (Which I nearly managed). Credit to the OP for helping, the vehicles description and what is broken sometimes is enough as it was for me.
 
Last Saturday I was up until about 4am working, heard some kids about 20 mins beforehand shouting etc a bit further down the road, thought nothing of it. Then at 4ish, I heard police radios outside by bedroom window, looked out and there was two unmarked police cars parked up and about half a dozen armed policemen. Machine guns the lot. One of them spotted me looking out my window and he made his was towards my house. Opened the door and he asked me if I'd called the police, said I hadn't, asked me if I'd seen or heard anything suspicious. Told him about the kids shouting, thanked me and they all walked down the road in the direction I pointed to.

Wtf?

On the subject of strange goings on (and guns) -about four months ago I was driving home from work about 4.30 in the afternoon, down a well used cut-through country road around here. I got to the bottom end of the road, which was pretty busy by this time and a car was parked in the middle of the road. As I slowed down to see what was going on/overtake, I noticed a massive sniper type rifle (I know very little about guns but whatever it was had a silencer on the end) blatantly being aimed at a house out the window (and a really bad attempt to hide it when they noticed me).

A lorry driver came booting it up behind me, so I overtook the car in shock - tried to take the number plate in my rear view, but the lorry got in the way, so I turned around thought I would phone the police from my mobile and try and follow them but they had gone. Anyway I reported it to the police and they told me they had had a few reports filtering in about a van driving around with a shotgun pointed out the window in the area. This turned out to be a different incident that had been reported but was going on at the same time in the area! Probablly connected in some way but I recon it was to do with travellers.
