Pics: SGS2 and White IP4

I have the screen here and I can't make out any of the pixels, I can do it easily on all the other screens

Good for you.

It doesn't prove anything though.

iPhone 4 has great pixel density already but it's not perfect and if you read one of the two articles I linked to, you'll figure out it's far from it from the human eye capabilities POV.

If you can't make out the pixels, what do you gain from having even more?

so it says around 300dpi is the sweet spot.

Minimum Resolution for Smooth, Clean Images (dpi)
Distance 20/20
(6/6) 20/15
(6/4.5)
36" 68 90
24" 101 135
18" 135 180
12" 203 270
8" 304 405
6" 405 540

Depending on your vision and viewing distance, it might just be.

That doesn't make a human eye any less capable as you can read in the other article :)

You obviously won't benefit.

Khaaaan will enjoy sharper images :p

You can't say that there isn't a difference unless you compare the two side by side.

Even /if/ that's the case on the next round of superphones I doubt it will make the battery drain faster due to improvements elsewhere cancelling this out and breaking even.

Samsung have confirmed these screens anyway so it is going as planned for the SGS III!

cancelling out and breaking even is not good enough - battery life is more important IMO.

what res has samsung decided for the III? 720p?

I agree - 300dpi is good enough for a phone - I don't know anyone that would hold a phone 3cm from their eyes.

I would benefit, my eyesight is perfect (if that is what you meant).

I'm saying I don't see what the benefits would be, not that there aren't any.

That's more than likely, 300 ppi at 1280x720 would work out at 4.27" x 2.4" so if they make it of even higher density, the phone should be of a decent size and have great playback capabilities (HD movies in HD! :P ).

Achieving this will be a milestone in the technology as producers will finally focus on producing more reliable phones or maybe developing holographic technology.

Why are you arguing a moot point?

My point was clear, 300 dpi (or rather - ppi) isn't the limit for human retina.

It doesn't make smartphones with such pixel density any less capable but it makes the marketing thing what it really is - just ****ty marketing.

Read my previous reply to Khaaan in this thread, I'd clearly stated what I think of this high resolution.

I doubt many will be able to tell the difference in sharpness at such high dpi.

My sight is far from perfect nowadays.

With that said, I reckon you will still be able to tell a difference in still high-resolution images.

Especially Apple ones I'm sure! :p

'If you don't have an iPhone, you...' arrrgh, have just thrown it at the TV to make the guy shut up!

Personally I still think the SGSII is a few millimeters too long and wide to be comfortable. The motorolla atrix pretty much nailed the ideal size I think (however I think it is a bit thicker).

I think the SGS2 is quite close to being a tablet, but that's no bad thing in my eyes.

It's about the same size as an iPhone with a bumper on, its far from a tablet imo. I think that universally people would accept 4.3" as a screen size but they just like to bandwagon jump that its way too big, etc.

A thin 4" x 2.25" screen with a resolution of 1280x720 would be ideal :)

This.
I think for an everyday phone 4.3" it verging on too big and a high quality high resolution 4" would be a much better solution all round.

I will however agree that although the iPhone is a comfortable size a 3.5" screen is simply too small for a lot of what you try to do with a smart phone these days.
