i think basically we are in agreement here![]()
It won't. If you pass it early enough.
I find it funny that people pick on the facts and argue with me rather than my actual opinion on the matter.
When I said "I rather the tax don't exist"
All you are ranting about is your opinion, sorry, but you are wrong. At least legally speaking. The law says you have to pay. You can moan, doesn't change a thing.
And DM, I didn't miss the point, like I said, I rather it doesn't exist. But the point is that someone else paid for it, you didn't. Family member is irrelevant. The will could leave everything to a stranger, should the tax apply to a stranger and not a relative? And how close a relative? Should it be free for sons and daughters, 10% on grandchildren, 20% on cousins?
Also, if people feel strongly about it, do something about it. Plan ahead, trusts, PET, taper relief etc.
If they feel REALLY strongly about it, change the law. The law is made and pass by the house of commons, people like us. We put those politician there to make laws, we agree with their views to put them there. Pick someone who has the same view on this and out him as your MP? Or hell, run yourself!
I bet people wont differentiate my actual views to the law.
So it's better to tax the people who are thrown a curveball by an untimely death... than the ones who specifically make a plan to avoid it and are given that opportunity?
For example... say someone's parent were to be expected to live til they were 90 years old to the day, had planned to hand over possession to their kid when they turned 89... but died when they were 88... why should this mean the kid should then be taxed at a ridiculous rate?
The fact is, the house has already had all relevant taxes paid on it... why should more taxes suddenly appear out of no-where... especially when they're avoidable if you have the time to plan for it?
It's ridiculous and exploitative!
How do you know without any doubt that the car isn't taxed? And maybe he derives perverse pleasure from not displaying the tax disc just to get on people's nerves!
if I ever got my hands on a proper tax evader, I'd probably drive my car into the side of them loads of times, ggrrrr![]()
I was under the impression that you get fined automatically if you car is not taxed or sorn for any length of time?
iv just realised hes agreeing with us, hes just saying the law is the law ****ed up as it may be
You must be doing rather well for yourself with the cars & the house...Ignore me i was taking the ****, just dont worry about it mate, seriously its trivial just let the idiots get on with it.
I'm just being slow tonight... hehe
One question about something you said earlier though (and it's a question, not meant to be inflamatory or anything of the sort)... plus I don't know enough about your history, so please don't think I'm making any silly assumptions.
Anyhoo...
You must be doing rather well for yourself with the cars & the house...
I imagine £200-500/year is un-noticeable to you.
That's not un-noticeable to everyone. And it wasn't to me back when I was 18...
Minimum wage is something like £6/hour... 40hr week * 50 = £12,000/year... minus 20% tax... leaves you with £9600/year or £800/month
Rough figures, there are probably a few tax credits etc I have no idea about...
How would you like to spend ~1/19th of your yearly income on a silly circular tax thingy and then have the person next door to you not AND get away with it?
Granted the above begs the question how could that person possibly afford to run the car in the first place... but still...
Just checked, it's not insured either. I've got a bit of a rage brewing!

When i was young i was angry about everything, now less so.
Yea its a pest when next door dont pay their tax, but still sod it, your a better person sod em, let them get on with it.
When you catch them mugging someone, nicking someones car, being a burglar then good, give them a dig, grass them whatever, but no tax on a car/ whats that about, ignore it.
Fair and I'm of similar persuation... it's not worth getting irate about.
Part of me would like to believe if everyone paid what they were supposed to, the chasing bodies could be reduced and the amount we actually pay could be reduced as the bell-curve of payments would even out and rise a bit... but in reality, the goverment would just make more money...
I'm pro-tax-dodging as much as I can be, at least until they utilise the money properly! However, too much of a chicken to risk doing anything myself... lately it seems you're more likely to end up in prison over dodging taxes than you are by assaulting someone
To the op... pick your battles... if you really feel that strongly about it, there are enough suggestions in here that it shouldn't stay too long.
However, if it doesn't work, don't rip your hair out... it's not a battle worth fighting...
But that doesn't mean you can't use it as an excuse to have some funso you could just go the other extreme and just generally **** with them, that can be rather enjoyable... but it depends on them and you
