Afew years back when I was on the dole I went to an "interview techniques" meeting. I havent had to do an interview in a while now as the company im at now just took me on (previous employment).

One of the pieces of advice to secure the job was type up a letter to the interviewer saying "thanks for the opertunity etc" and leave it at reception after you have finished the interview.

Has anyone ever done this? It sounds really lame but if it works then who cares!

I wouldn't do this personally, as an interviewer being slimed rubs me up the wrong way. Makes me feel dirty and wonder what other sleazy tactics the person might employ to get their own way.

I mean I have had done three interviews in my life and got the jobs without this but just curious to see really...

Never heard of it before. Could either be original and slightly impressive or as Robbie said slimeball-city.

At my Uni careers offices they recommend these steps

send coverletter/cv
phone a day or two after
get interview
send thanks letter/email a day or two after

I guess it depends on how you word it. It'll either come across as slimy or sincere.
Seems a bit pointless if you ask me, considering you've got jobs previously without doing this.

I personally wouldn't do that. I would just shake my interviewers hand and say thanks for your time or something similar.

I wouldn't, I would just thank them for the opportunity verbally at the end of the interview when you shake their hands good bye.

Good way of sorting the people that come straight from the career office or been sent on some lame interview technique course. Never heard of this in my life and would feel really lame doing it.

Oooh, sounds creepy. Drop them an email a couple of days later saying thank you for seeing me, let them know you're in contact if they have any further questions and look forward to hearing from them soon. It shows you're interested and have the ability and confidence to chase things up off your own back.

EDIT, address this to HR rather than the interviewer otherwise it may seem a little underhanded to go direct.

I've never done it, would never do it.
