Japspeed subaru Stolen 11/06/11

I think these kinds of cars are difficult to insure. There is also the question of getting a fairly ballsy car thief in the hands of people who don't particularly like car thiefs.

Would love to know how this one was pulled off though, just a confidence grab or more complicated I wonder.

I think it was an opportunity thing, but whoever took it must have known what they were doing. These things aren't straightforward to drive, it's not a case of sit down and turn the key, there are lots of various switches you have to activate, for fuel pumps etc.

Got to be honest, does anyone actually care? No. Surely it's insured.....right?

If it was stock you may have a point, but on a car modified as extensively as this thats just a stupid comment, the amount of time and effort put into it will have been enormous.

that driftworks thread gets funnier by the page

now someone has been accused of being the thief, signed up to see if they're close to finding him because he asked if someone saw the plates after they claimed it's now running on fake plates

classic :D

How is it a stupid comment? You'd expect something worth several tens of thousands of pounds would be insured.

What do you think happens with collectors of classic cars do? Take their million quid plus cars out to shows but don't bother with some form of insurance?

Most will be insured third party only. I would imagine that fire and theft might also be had for a reasonable price, so that might be covered as well in some cases. In which case the Japspeed car may be covered. But whether it's covered for the full cost of replacement is doubtful: I'd imagine that at best the insurance will cover the cost of a new base car and not the mods. Not quite in the same league of course, but I know most classic aircraft are NOT insured for damage to the machine in question: premiums are typically a third of the value of the plane per year. I would guess that premiums for classic cars and highly modified cars are just as outrageous.

Bob055, that is an old picture. The tow van belongs to the cars owner.

Only new picture around is this one:

Taken from the Santa Pod CCTV. Bottom left is screenshot date/time, on the right is the date and time of when footage was shot. Apparently the time is 1 hour out, so it was stolen at 6:30.

if we have a number of people like boxxer in that area, why not start at one end of wolf lane, knock on the doors and ask politely to have a look in the garage, if enough people in the area can help, a few hours should see it done, just make a note of the houses that tell you to jog on.

Go back and look at the unhelpfull ones later or give the local police the list of the unhelpfull ones.

Are some of these people for real?

You have to see where he's coming from though, regardless if it's insured, its not immediately replaceable.

Even if classic car owners lose a car, unless it's something turbo rare, it can be replaced.

A car such as this, there won't be anything like it on the market and as such, it will need to be built from the ground up. Full chassis prep and engine/drivetrain swap, and thats before any of the settings they've used in the R&D phase can be applied.

Damn right, totally deserved to get stolen for that!

Did you seriously sign up just to post that crap?

er? no as per my first post i joined to speak with likeminded forum members who enjoyed pc's and what they can do.

I think you read into my post to much, it was supposed to be light hearted!!!

As a fellow racing enthusiast i hope the car is recovered safe and sound BTW
