Just paid £48M for Hazard for Real Madrid. They gave me £150 million at the end of the season when i got the job. Then anouther £150M at begining of the season. Bought Rooney, Hazard, Pastore, Alexis Sanchez, Jonny Evans.

Spent £163M and still have £80M to spend.

IMO -

-You are using the wrong formation, play Pastore or Ozil as a AMC and use a 4-2-3-1.

-You paid over the odds for Hazard, he's great, but not £48M great.

-Where is your holding midfielder?

-Jonny Evans? After signing superstars you could have done better than him. Granted he is a good CB, you should have went for someone like Chiellini or Vidic.

Nothing wrong with 4-4-2, just the midfielders need defined roles, something like one a ball winner and the other box to box or something (works for my cafc team, this season 2nd in the prem and semi's of the champions league!!!!)

Hazard is a £20m player nothing more, very very good but 48m is just too much (fm makes you over pay sometimes though)

4 4 2 can work well, I've been using it a lot this game to be honest. You do need to have two very different midfielders playing two different roles. I have one who defends and breaks up play, plays simple passes and the other who is much more creative and supports the attack.

Typically, with Untied, Fletcher does the midfield dirty work with Hargreaves and they give my more creative midfielder much more licence to roam and attack.

Football teams are all about balance. If you get it right, it's easy, wrong you won't last very long in charge.

Also, how much a player is "worth" and how much a club "want" for him are two very different things even in FM, so don't give in and buy players for stupid money.

Would you chuck up your transfer history for me? Quite interested in who you signed, I'm looking to start a game as either Barcelona or Real Madrid quite soon.

When I'm home I'll chuck up an update on my United game.

Well season 7 at Charlton Athletic, only won L1 on 2011, League Cup in 2015 and 2016, Fa Cup in 2017 so far...

Came 3rd this season which is a 1 place improvement plus iv survived a board take over which has sorted my clubs finances out :). Lost the Champions league final 2-1 against Arsenal (was a suprise even to be there as we put out man city, psv and OM).

Next season I need to mould the team to beat city in the league as they have won 3 in a row (and get my 2 regen strikers scoring)

Tummy you're right about the transfer thing, but some times you have to bow down to the stupid money in football syndrome just to get a working/decent set of players (especially right and left backs) which is annoying as my let and right backs I had to over pay massively for to get anywhere in the prem

RB and LB is the hardest place to get players. I spent around 10M for a LB (release clause) and am getting 25M offers for him season later. RB I spend 5M on one and 12M on another. Both are naturally DC though.

Real players or regens?? I had to blow 13m to get Newton out of a Brazilian club and about the same to activate Denis Appiah's release clause (he had gone to Kiev).

It's fairly easy to get good regen one's a few seasons in, you just have to be first to bring them to europe...

Both :P Regens is harder as you don't know who is going to be the next big thing.

Its hard to be the first. You would need like 3 scouts for argentina and 3 for brazil to get them. And you are never 100% they are going to be good.

3?!?! That's crazy! :p I have one 20/20 with a decent discipline stat roaming the whole of south america...

All you have to do is keep a good eye on who they are looking at and sign them when they are 17... (taking a good punt but it usually pays off well, got 2 wonder kids for 2.8m each)

Still trying to get my scouts right, but yeah :P I got a few 20/20, and I send them to the normal places.

When i send them to a continent, they never seem to move :S

Possibly a silly question. This is the first time I've played a football manager game of any type and while I'm doing reasonably well with Newcastle my backroom staff are telling me about the players getting overawed with higher reputation teams. Is there any way to combat this or just keep playing?

Yeah, I always seem to get that. In my experience it doesn't really make any difference so I wouldn't worry about it. If you're playing Barca or Man U maybe do a "pressure is off" type of teamtalk.

My Spurs team were "overawed" for 5 seasons (which I ignored) and we won absolutely everything!

After a couple of seasons (establishing a decent team helps) telling them they can beat the big teams also helps a lot, effectively telling them they are a big team too...

Good to know, just beat Chelsea (top of the table) 3-0, but had lost to Arsenal (8th) the previous game. I swear it seems sheer luck when beating teams for me. Got a bloody good squad also.

I just let the ass man do the team talk. There are set things you should say to the team depending on the situation and since the ass man knows that I don't see the point in me doing it and potentially getting it wrong and throwing away a certain victory because of it.

It annoys me a little that the wrong words can utterly make or break your match. I doubt that Fergy saying "you can do this" makes much difference from "I expect a result".

Off the back of this thread I've kicked off a new game using Spurs..

I seem to be doing rather well so far, joint top with Chelsea, beating arsenal 5-1 at the emirates for good measure (closely followed up by a 1-1 draw at everton.. who are just above relegation - good old FM, it is realistic atleast where Spurs random performances come)

Got off to a good start by beating Celtic fairly easily in the CL qualifiers, but then got drawn in a group of death against Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Bursaspor (ok, well the first two were tough), promptly qualified top of the group after coming back from 1-0 to win 3-1 against Real.. now I have Bayern in the first knockout stage..

Good things to note:

- Modric is a legend
- Sandro is a top sidekick to said legend
- Defoe and Pav actually make a decent partnership up front - 12th Feb currently and combined they are on 51 goals already.

Unfortunately Spurs start with a pretty poor transfer budget so I wasnt able to bring in anyone of note really - I bought a load of youth players (one being Roussillon who is also quality) and loaned in Hazard as I couldnt get him for a decent fee - fortunately as part of the loan I agreed a £10m fixed fee, so come the january window and further injection of £19m from the board I snapped him up :)

All in all, going well, I just hope I can hang onto my top players - I've already been turning offers for Dawson & King from Man City all year and offers for Modric, Bale & VdV from Man U and others too...

OK, finished my 1st season with Blackpool. Managed to get 8th in the league. Signed some top players this season, Micheal Owen, J.Woodgate, P.Viera, Bebe (on loan) and some other good players. Hoping to get into Europe at the end of the season.

8th?!?!?! BLACKPOOL?!?!?!?!

Too weird...

Anyway Owen and Woodgate (unless you are stupidly lucky) become first team players of the medical room team... :p unless they are on pretty much nothing a week you are stuck with 2 irritating players :(

Bebe is weird, seems to perform but his stats never get amazing and Viera should be alright for a season or two.

Why do people play Hazard on the left :( It sickens me :( As AMC, he got me 37 assists in a season.

I had gotten Bebe and his stats never improved. In 2020/2021 I'm with Portsmouth (as previously stated) hes first team with City. He plays well but stats barley improved tbf

Heres the screens, First Season signings, end of fist season table, and second season signings.

Managed to snag the Quad with United in season 2. No savey reloadey this time through and it was Barca I beat in the final. Got a really easy run in the knockouts though.

Just renewed a bunch of contracts and Valencia wants 24k per appearance. I for one can't honestly believe that on top of everything else they get paid to just turn up. Isn't that what they get paid for in the first place?

A quote from an interview with Fergie himself.

Another agent wanted money for every goal the player concerned scored for United, Ferguson told Colm Murray, a broadcaster for Ireland's RTE network. "This is what you're dealing with and it is unbelievable," Ferguson said. "They have an imagination beyond belief. I told the board [in the case of the cash-per-goal request], 'Can you please remind them that's why we are buying the player in the first place: because he is a goalscorer'."
