looking to buy one of these 2 before midnight tonite,

im not really interested in failure rates as its personal preference, im wondering if the barracuda green justifies its £8 increased cost for any reason?

As this is blu ray storage etc it will be used when watching films so noise is i guess the most important factor.. are either of these two noisey? from what i gather the f4EG is louder but im not sure if its a real life issue?

anyone with personal experience of the noise level?

Couldn't tell you anything about the Seagate.

I have 4 of the F4's and they're fine.

Can't say that I've noticed them as noisier than any other drive.

If you're using them to store movies for playback then it would have to be a very noisy drive indeed to be heard over the film.

i guess thats a very good point that im missing, so it seems obvious to go the samsung then i guess, my first samsung hardware besides my blu ray drive!

Dont think it does. When you select format just chose 4096bytes instead of 512bytes
That's not the issue. Formatting as NTFS usually uses 4096 B sectors, which is fine but you need to make sure the NTFS sectors are aligned with the 4096 B physical sectors on the drive itself.

In my experience, SSDs are aligned automatically during install of Windows 7 (if you install to raw drive space) but advanced format HDDs are not aligned when formatted from within Windows. To make sure the drive is aligned, use the Paragon Alignment Tool (can be downloaded for free from the Dell website, there was a thread about this recently so have a quick search). Do this whilst it is formatted but empty otherwise it could take hours!

I haven't done this on any of my other hdds at all :O.. surely it doesn't matter for a storage drive?
