As "broken" shotguns are at range they're not that great for more than 1 person firefights.

Gang up on a shotgun wielder! :p

Usually I see guys with shotguns mowing down people one by one and nobody teams up to bring them down. Which is annoying unless you get a good squad.

the preorder flachete shells however are for the drum fed auto shotgun.

Yes. That's how business works. They have targets, they need to meet them.

The number of pre-orders shouldn't determine the success of the game.

BF3 will sell heaps all the same. So I don't see the emphasis on pre-ordering, the whole concept is bizarre given that under no circumstances will there be a product shortage on release day.

And by incentivising pre-orders with exclusive unlocks it disadvantages those that buy after release, which is unfair.

EXCLUSIVE to pre-order items:

TYPE 88 LIGHT MACHINE GUN: Nice LMG with bipod. Not sure how much an advantage this will be compared to the stock weapons with the game but should be great for suppression.

FLASH SUPPRESSOR: Making it almost impossible to spot a long range sniper. This exclusive item is the only sniper rifle flash suppressor in the game.

FLECHETTE AMMO for DAO-12: Armour percing slugs which can fire through WALLS and armour and kill 3 men in one shot.Again this item will not be available to be unlocked in the game.

First day access:

DAO-12 shotgun: Day 1 unlock: Big advantage until everybody else unlocks it

So you have the situation where people with pre-orders from Game etc will have these items, people with pre-orders from elsewhere or people who buy the game after launch won't

There is going to be hell on. I mean, how ****** are you going to be with a normal pre-order pack or retail game and you start and get shot through walls?

I for one will be running around with my DAO-12 and Flechette ammo from day 1 getting flamed to hell but I don't care.

The only official information is thus:

TYPE 88 LIGHT MACHINE GUN
Exclusive weapon
The Type 88 is a gas-powered, air-cooled light machine gun that comes equipped with a bipod for maximum stability. Setting the bipod up on a suitable surface gives a major boost in accuracy and recoil reduction. With the Type 88, you will completely deny the enemy entry to your area of control.

DAO-12 shotgun
Day 1 unlock
It isn’t hard to see why the powerful DAO-12 was a big fan favorite in Battlefield 2. Being a highly versatile semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, the DAO-12 can carry 4 types of ammo in a high capacity 12-round magazine. For close encounters, you wouldn’t want to carry any other weapon, and with the Physical Warfare Pack, you unlock it from day 1 in Battlefield 3.

Flechette ammo for the DAO-12 shotgun
Exclusive ammo
This exclusive armor-piercing ammo makes your DAO-12 shotgun pack an added punch. Each flechette cartridge holds a number of 1-inch tungsten arrows that willtear through any material, be it metal, wood, or enemies. If you turn a corner and meet three soldiers from the opposing force, these are the rounds you want loaded in your DAO-12.

FLASH SUPPRESSOR FOR SKS SNIPER RIFLE
Exclusive weapon mod
This exclusive item is the only sniper rifle flash suppressor in the game. Attaching it to the fast-firing and high capacity SKS rifle turns you into a highly agile and versatile Recon member. For the true team-play Recon who wants to contribute at the front while staying stealthy, this weapon mod is an essential upgrade.

What link do you have that states EA saying the ammo can fire through walls and kill 3 people at once. I'd like to see that. Sounds like hyperbole to me. You and I have no idea how powerful these weapons are going to be. You can't assume they're going to be powerful just by the description that EA give.

EA have stated that these items won't imbalance the game, they're just for variation and won't give anyone an advantage. That's code for 'they're effectively useless'. EA will nerf the above items, make no mistake. If there is any hint of an in-game advantage from the exclusive items it will be very quickly patched.

The early unlock isn't an issue, as people have said, because it can be unlocked eventually by anyone.

And again, I'd like your link to EA saying the ammo can go through walls and kill 3 people at once.

Where are you guys getting this "can go through walls" crap on the flechette shells?

In real life the shells are used for shooting people through walls. You think it's not going to in the game? It will be a bit daft if your shots got through metal but not walls.

Also this is going to a an APC killer.

I know. But they're a business, of course they want pre-orders. If you had a product due for release, then you'd want as many people as possible commiting to buying it. It satisfies the powers that be who probably couldn't give a **** about whether exclusive items are fair or not.

The argument isn't that there IS downloadable content. Everyone knows DLC is viable and isn't going anywhere. The issue here is that the DLC weapon pack is exclusive to the store where you pre-order it and is exclusive only to people who pre-order.

So someone who holds off on purchase waiting for reviews, or has to wait because it's going to be a Christmas present, or even someone that waits to upgrade their computer so they can play it, is going to be getting a different game. And they'll never have access to that content, even though it's included in the price if you pre-order it now.

It's the equivalent of a movie studio only showing some scenes at the cinema to get people to go see it, and the cutting them from the full price DVD.

Ah right my bad! But hasn't this been the same with the past BFBC games? Also 50% of other new FPS shooters as I said in my previous post its usually done with retailers to keep some extra shelve/advertising space. These often become available by other means later on don't they?

I would rather not have stuff like this happen but its been going on for the past 2 years so I doubt it will be going anywhere soon. But I believe these guns will pop up as timed exclusives and will be given to Battlefield VIP members too later on.

Yeah that makes sense if the product you're selling is somehow sub-par, which I hope not to be the case with BF3.

Anyway, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the unlocks. This was supposed to be an exclusive unlock with Gamestop for BC2, never came to be.

AK74U with upgraded mag + silencer?

It's not though. EA have said these are EXCLUSIVE and will not be available to be unlocked.

I'm talking about the day-1 unlock for the DAO-12. Not the exclusive items.

Also, you assume the flechette shells can go through walls because that's what they do in real life? It's a game, not a simulator. If they don't want them firing through walls in game for the sake of balance, they won't have them go through walls.

You need to understand that these exclusive items will not be any more powerful than anything accessible to a non pre-order. This has been stated by EA.

There was a BC2 boycott, which actually worked and EA backed down on something and changed their mind. It may have been on exclusive pre-order items, I can't remember.

Meh who needs weak unlocks when I'm dropping bombs on cannon fodder below.

Physical Warfare Pack looks to have some nice gear in it and even though Dice say they will not effect game balance I don't believe a word of it. EA are screwing us over by making these unlocks only available if you pre-order through game or gamestation. They better think on and make these available as DLC or they gonna be getting some major flack.

It's going to be so funny when all the supposedly exclusive unlocks for pre-order vict...err I mean customers, are available too all comers :D. There's gonna be so much crying.

I believe you're thinking of BC1.

EA originally planned to sell exclusive weapons through the 360/PS3 marketplace, but fans complained, and they completely backtracked.
