I like to play with the people on my Steam friends list / use the Steam chat overaly. I do not wish to install another platform which I have no experience with just to play one game :(

You can still link to non-Steam games (even those purchased and downloaded through EA Origin), therefore you can launch it via Steam, and use the Steam overlay still.

Yeah its really not a massive difference or problem.

I certainly won't be letting any of this stop me from buying BF3, as I expect will be the case with most.

with it not being sold on steam though, i'd be worried that pb will consider the steam overlay an unauthorised over lay for the first few weeks.

although knowing how these things back fire i wouldn't be surprised if the origin overlay gets people kicked.

This.

To this day, BF2 and CoD4, pb still kicks you for having Steam overlay (non-steam versions).

Origin, lol, seems all they did was rename ea download manager and give it a new icon.

It's EA. Master of all sports titles, and queen of The Sims.
And you weren't expecting them to regurgitate something foul, rename it and claim it's new and shiny?

Someone posted this on the Steam forums - it's from the Origin help section, I thought some of you might find it interesting.

"QUESTION

I've received an error message on Origin, what does the error mean?

ANSWER

You may receive one of the following error messages if you have reached the maximum amount of times your game can be downloaded through Origin:

For security reasons, you are allowed # concurrently active licenses. This limit has been reached. Please wait until one of the other licenses auto-expires, then try again.
License response error: '78008,Max machine lifetime entitlement met:#
Error: 10000:78008

Every time the download button is clicked, a download count will be added to your lifetime total. If you have installed your game via Origin on more than three computers within a ten day period, you will need to wait until the first installation expires.

Note: Re-installing your operating system, or interrupting a current download, will count as a new computer installation.

If you have reached your download limit, click Contact Us and include your account name, the title of the file or game you are downloading, and a brief description of the issue."
