EA Removes Recently Released Games from Steam

But they're saying that crysis 2 is now exclusive to origin.

So how could it be an issue with a 3rd download company?

I

I remember the good old days but then i started to get annoyed at having to have a silly login and password to play online for more and more games, now it seems they want more than that, total control while squeezing every penny possible through over priced dlc etc, it just gets to the point where its not worth it, the companys behind gaming have become pathetic greedy control freaks.

It's sad really, these companys make hundreds of millions, even billions on their gaming franchises, yet its never enough, i mean whats wrong with giving people value for their money and some choice in how it's used, while making a reasonable profit?

Welcome to the world of games publishers - heck, publishers of any media - I certainly can't remember the good old days where making profits and trying to control the industry wasn't on the agenda.

I haven't used Origin yet, but i have had a nightmare in the past of having loads of different 'personas' or whatever and not being able to login to BC2 etc because i had to register with different addresses, EA losing dlc data for DAO which menat i had to register a different email. However on the few occasions that i have dealt with their CS i have been pleasently suprised. (bought BC2 second hand and they sent me codes for MP and Vietnam no questions asked:cool:)

I will give it a go though(but my hopes aren't high) as they are obviously trying to compete with steam, so surely at the least it can't be a complete trainwreck and they will surely want to compete with Steam/D2D etc in terms of pricing too.:)

EA have every right to do this, just as Valve did with HL2 release.

The community went nuts when Valve forced a Steam install to be able to play HL2, now most consider Steam the saviour of PC gaming.

Multiple accounts are a pain but lets see how this pans out. If EA can increase revenue with their published titles by using Origin, who's to say this won't have a positive knock on effect for PC gaming in general as more focus shifts back to the PC and increases output of PC titles.

Except Steam is an exceptional content delivery service with a very good community.

Origin is EA attempting to catch up with the bandwagon for purely monetary reasons. They couldn't give a flying **** about whether its a negative or positive thing for gamers, all they see is increase revenue.

What I dont understand is why they had to change the folder structure of the game installs from EA -> Origin.

The update didnt even repoint my old EA Download Manager games which was a pain because I had the installer downloaded for Crysis 2, which Origin didn't recognise. Causing problems.

Was Steam an exceptional content delivery service when it was first released?

Were there other content delivery services when Steam was released to show how its done? Since then has Steam actually worked to make things better for gamers? What exactly has EA done with their Download Manager to improve our gaming experience that hasn't simply been copied from Steam?

Yeah that last ones probably the easiest. Nothing. EA are doing what they're good at. Keeping there eyes on the money regardless of how inconvenient it is.

Hi peeps,

Clearly something is a miss with the whole Crysis 2 is pulled, EA trying not to get their hands dirty pushing the blame back at Steam, but I guess they are pulling some strings in the background.

Also you need to read between the lines a little here, what was meant to come out in a few days? Crysis 2 DLC, I bet the terms Steam put’s out say that any DLC should be available to everyone on steam if the game is available on steam, bet origin was going to get it and not steam.

So in one way EA are correct its Steams terms, but I bet EA forced the issue so steam had no choice but to say sorry how’s about “maximum jog on”

With all the kick off over BF3 it don’t look good for that either

Little bit of a tool, got the date wrong on the dlc, but i still think thats the terms point,

Oh dear, i really like steam infact i buy all my games from it. They have some good deals, strange indie games (there the future)

I will not be buying BF3 or infact any other EA from there new service. I may consider retail IF and its a big IF that retail copy doesn't force me to use it or install it.

I dare say this will hit there BF3 release more than they realize, and i hope it does.

they would be crazy to not use mass effect 3 and battlefield 3 to drive the distribution of origin, I can say with almost certainty that it will be on the retail disc and only be available on that platform. If you want to go deep enough you could speculate on the budget for battlefield 3 being related to origins inception, for such a console centric aaa industry at the moment this origin platform is receiving heavy endorsement.

oh dear this is the worst news ever?!! i don't want to have to install ****ty origin to play bf3 or me3 !! and those are the games im most looking forward 2
