30th of June strikes.

Why are there never any strikes when I'm at school! :(

Was it you who went to Government Cuts protest?

Yep! T'was awesome  :)

If you drop me a trust message I'll drop you over a couple of pictures, I'll post them up if more people want to see them.

Just going out now so won't be back online until later this evening.

I'm not sure that was his point... :p

I know you're one of these 'stick it to the man' people but seriously, this is out of order.

Why is it out of order? What would you do if your employer unilaterally altetred you T&C's of employment without any meaningful consultation with you?

Wait, I know the answer already, you'd suck it up, whinge to your mates and partner but ultimately do nothing about and let youraself be trodden all over. or alternatively you'dlet them push you out of a job you ultimately enjoy and are otherwise perfectly happy with.

There is a fineline between being a compliant and a doormat.

I am not a member of the specific union however I am in unison. They striked last year but I couldnt afford to.

To all those who say if you dont like it just leave then the people who replace them would be exactly the same as the deal will be just as bad for them. Its not a reasonable solution.

Personally I think it's outrageous. A lot of people depend on these services!

Are you sure? I thought public sector workers just dossed around collecting their gold-plated pay and pensions and that private sector employees were the only ones that added value.

Now that you seem to be suggesting that public sector workers do valuable work too, so my question is how valuable is that work and has that value diminished over the last couple of years?

You are aware that pensions are investment schemes, right? And that like any investment scheme the value of your final take out pay can go up as well as down?

If they dont want to work sack them, there are plenty others looking for jobs.
The trouble being, of course, that there aren't plenty of other trained people to do the jobs. Which is why the teachers/atc/tube drivers are going to show how selfish they are and strike.

Are you one of these irritating teachers that think the tax payers and government owe them the world when it comes to remuneration and retirement are you?

Nope. i just value teachers for the excellent service they provide. Could you sit in a class of 30 children and teach them maths or english? I know I couldn't - I couldn't imagine a worse job.

I'm a private sector worker

me too.

who has no access to a public pension, other than the laughable state pension,

Ditto

that is sick and tired of teachers complaining about working conditions.

Ah, but I'm not a jealous envious little man. I dislike seeing others having thier contractual entitlement taken away from them - it's just not fair. I'm also one of the few that realise when public sector pensions are nailed to the floor it gives the private sector a green light for a firesale of any private sector pensions that remain.

I'd love to see some pictures, I only went to the student protests to take pictures/get the day off! :D

I was more inclined to believe public transport was a heavily used service and is very valuable and as such, bus drivers, pilots and train drivers earn quite a good salary with the benefit of a pension.

But I'm inexperienced with things as this to be entirely honest.

I'm pretty sure that access to a pension scheme is part of the contractual entitlement, but the terms of the pension scheme itself are not.

Being annoyed that teachers complain a lot is being envious is it? Odd definition you seem to have of it.

Is a pension - without reduction or indeed increase - a contractual entitlement?

750k parasites are going to strike. I probably won't even notice.

I thought the tube was private, I was not aware that the tube drivers could be considered to be public. Tube drivers striking affects everyone in london, even if you don't use it. But the rest of the public sector parasites can strike for all i care as i won't even notice, as I like millions of other people do not use any of their services.

Depends on what you mean by consultation? Our bank has changed it's final salary scheme [part of the risk reduction that Banks are going through]. There have have been consultations but no choice. It's either accept it or leave. It's caused an outrage, particularly for those that have long service.

So it annoys me the unions in the public sector still hold the public to ransom when they throw there toys out of the pram. It's disgusting behaviour and I still can't believe that in the 21st centurary this still goes on!!!

Everyone has a right to voice an opinion but not at the expense of other peoples expense and livelihoods. It's just selfish..

The form of the scheme is a contractual entitlement - so if it's a final salary scheme then it should remain a final salary scheme. Changing it to a career average scheme without negotiation* is a breach of contract.

Negotiation is not the employer sitting in a room with the Union saying "we're doing xyz and there is jack **** you can do about it".
